It's not cheating if you're supposed to be using a bike, dullard.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I'd be much more impressed if they just ran instead of using a bike so powerful it basically drives itself. The hardest bit of the Tour de France is probably dealing with the saddle soreness

        It's not pleasant.

Believe me, you'd be much more impressed if you'd ever actually tried riding up the Tour de France mountains and then imagine how much effort it takes to do it after three other almost impossible climbs and four times more quickly than you can after none.

But then again you'd be much more impressed if you weren't a dull-witted clown.

Sorry Neil I forgot how sensitive you were on this subject . I was reading about Lance Armstrong and thought of this thread, and couldn't resist a little bumping fun!

I will leave you to this thread again now, it was clearly flourishing back on page 3 before I intervened

Don't worry about it. I wasn't taking umbrage. But I'm heading off again soon to do some more riding in France and my lack of preparation is starting to hang over me like a a very ominous cloud. Talking of which, it would help if the weather wasn't quite so ****e.

It was good to see the old thread back again.

              ok

And if Eddie Izzard can run 114 marathons in 3 days I think you can manage a few little hills in France

                You'd think so, yeah.

Who do you think is going to win the tour Neil? I see Wiggins is doing well but historically if you do well before it's very hard to challenge in the Tour.
                  Are we winning?

Yeah, the worry is he's peaked too soon but he doesn't see it like that. It's not like he and Sky are beginners when it comes to physical conditioning so maybe he's right.

Evans is favourite - building form nicely. But Wiggins is a real contender, surely his biggest challenger. He's also got an incredibly strong team - Froome, Rogers, Porte, Hayman, Suitsou. It's possible Cavendish's sprint train will take something out of the team but I doubt it - I think he'll go for stages early on and then probably drop out by the end of the second week.

As for the others, no one stands out. The Schlecks are so crap at time trialling I can't see them winning anything other than a stage or two. Nibali looked off the pace at the Dauphiné and Gesink's done nothing. Van Den Broek is a threat I suppose.

I can't think of anyone else. That doesn't mean there aren't any other credible contenders, just that I can't remember them.

                    I shall be there.

I'd be taking a cheeky punt on Cavendish this year. He'll win a fair few stages I reckon.

I'd like to see them have to ride the Tour de France on BMXs. That would sort them out.
