48hrs in and it's been eventful. Last night I had stomach cramps and then the ****s. Today I've not had a **** at all.

Breakfast - 2 eggs with broccoli spears
Lunch - small Caesar salad with half a dozen anchovies on top
Dinner - Buffalo wings with blue cheese dip and celery stalk

Drinking only water and herbal tea. Don't feel at all lethargic. Roll on tomorrow

    Push ups count - 0

      I've stuck to my diet

      Shake for breakfast
      Subway salad box for lunch
Tuna or chicken with veg for tea

Plus regular exercise, not over doing it but get a bit of sweat on.

Enjoying... Feel quite fresh/positive. The big test is cutting out alcohol which mid week so far been ok but weekend will be tough.

Also using the my fitness pal app.

If I continue, the four days I've already had, every day...it reckons I'll lose over a stone in four weeks....which would be very pleasing

      My target is two stone.

My aim is to get this first stone, then really pick up the exercise and dieting to shed the second stone

I've not lost a single pound yet, despite virtually starving myself. I've probably drunk 4 litres of water in the last day or so though so could just be my body becoming less dehydrated from all the booze.

I'm thinking about food constantly though and just had a longin glance and moan at a jar of Australian honey that someone selfishly left out by the kettle

You wont lose weight on the first week until the ketosis kicks in. You'll lose a ****load in the second week though.

It's a pointless diet though unless it's for a specific aim. If you go back to a normal diet again after it you just put most of the weight back on within a month or two. It's bollocks.

I noticed a difference when I stopped eating bread all the time. I was having lots of bread for breakfast, lunch and tea - cut that out for lunch and noticed a difference after about a week. I've also cut down on rice and pasta too.

I gave up caffeine a few months ago - that was ****ing hard, way harder than giving up smoking. The physical effects on dropping it were draining - fatigue, bad headaches... I used to reach for a coke when I was flagging during the afternoon or to kickstart my morning. Replaced that with Berocca, which is far better. I'm not getting pressure headaches from missing out a caffeine drink now though, which is good.

Depends really. If you go back as you say then it'll eventually pile back on, but if you use it to give an initial boost then you can keep a lid on the weight. I am too heavy to run, IMO, and yet if I can drop to 12st 7lbs I'll be much less likely to injure myself and so will be able to run a bit more.

I agree that the diet only serves a short term goal though, absolutely

It all boils down to a very simple equation:

energy in > energy out = weight gain
energy in < energy out = weight loss

give or take some fiddling around for your current hydration level (you can lose lbs quickly through dehydration, as all boxers and jockeys know, but it's not a long term solution).

All of the diets ever invented, and all of the weight-loss focused training programmes, are aimed at shifting one or both sides of the equation.

At the end of the day, if you want to lose weight then eat less and/or move around more. It's that simple, though I appreciate it's harder to make the required lifestyle changes in practice. Loads of different diet and exercise approaches will give you the end result, weights-only or cardio-only and everything in between, it's all about finding the one that fits with your own lifestyle.

I tried giving up caffeine a few years ago when I was on 5-6 filter coffees a day at work. It was horrible. By day 3 I could barely keep my eyes open by lunchtime and had a splitting headache. One strong coffee later I was fine. It amazed me at the time how much of an effect it had. I've not tried giving up since, but they banned coffee makers from the office a year or so afterwards, and I'm not drinking nearly so much now I have to buy it from the canteen.

                      good effort

                      i haven't actually weighed myself

i have so far stuck to my diet though which has been pleasing and over the weekend i only had a couple quiet pints friday night. Which is a lot better than my usual binge drinker 20 pint minimum weekends.

this week i need to step up the exercise and get a bit stricter on diet, but last week was a decent starting point.

                        Well done you too

It's almost a week since I touched a drop of beer so I'm feeling quite alert for once I've noticed I'm a bit smelly though so I'm taking longer to brush my teeth. Been out in the sun with my shirt off too to dull the T-shirt tan and booked for a hair cut Wednesday. The missus is starting to question me like I'm having an affair

yeah i've done ok, but only ok - basically i saw last week as an initial break the routine/habits

the previous three to four weeks had been full of drinking/eating/no exercise due to weddings/stag dos/week at the golf/week away working.

i just needed to stop it and make a change

so i feel better for that, but i know i need to step up the dieting and exercising starting today to start to see some proper weight loss.

have to say, i've enjoyed the subway salads - filling, tasty, well priced, lot healthier than my usual lunches.

i've made the first step just now and ordered a two weeks supply from here

i know Rich used this and did well of it and i had a go last year for two weeks and saw results.

So just ordered a load of stuff and set up a meal planner to consist of

                            shake for breakfast

lunch - one of the meal packs plus one of the bars

tea - one of the meal packs plus add veg or salad.

it's done, paid for now, so i can't really afford to go and buy other food - so it's these packs or nothing

Yep. Thing is that it's easier to keep to a new lifestyle if you're already looking good. The maintenance of a decent body is doable. The initial kick start takes the dedication I reckon

I've been replacing bread with lettuce so that I can still have a sandwich of sorts, my calorie intake has only been around the 1700 mark which isn't good as a body in starvation won't burn the fat as quick I've been told.

I did that too as you know. Lost loads of weight and put it all back on once I finished It's a bit too extreme for me. In fairness I was on medication at the time that I'm convinced made me gain weight, but still. Beware
