It just seems incredibly anti racing. Maybe if it was a proper "tour" where there was no winner, no glory, just a nice ride around France....i can see why you'd do it there. But when everything is up for grabs including money and sponsorship deals. I cannot see why people have such a problem with it. The commentators here were still talking about it last night FFS. Get over it Schelck you soft ****, work harder to make the time your **** bike cost you.

Contador was clearly going to be blitzed by Schleck when he attacked.....so why would he stop and let Schleck get an easy win. Its bad luck for Schleck, and a bit of fortune for Contador. Nothing more nothing less.

      Thems the breaks in sport.

to the general premise of the post, but not necessairly endorsing the "soft ****" comment.

Contador and Schleck ride the same bikes.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

So during the world cup final, when Casillas had to tip over a pass to him when Holland returned the ball to Spain after an injury break, was Van Persie a "soft ****" for kicking the corner straight to Casillas? Was that "anti-football" or was the game, and is The Game, better for it?

            I think it's the latter.

That's a totally different thing though. Footballers only kick the ball out so the player can receive treatment. There are many occasions when the players continue with a player on the ground if its not serious. Schleck hadn't come off his bike and hurt himself, he broke his chain!

A better likeness would be do footballers stop play so a player can change his boot because it came off when he had a shot at goal.

No, put your boot back on and catch up on play you soft ****

It's a valid point of view but I don't share it.

However that's one thing. It's quite another to suggest an act of sportsmanship in any way lessens the sport, or, in your colourful if indelicate word, makes it "****." Doping, and, yes, cycling has had far too much of that - that lessens it. Going by train for some of the way, as one rider did in the 1904 Tour - that would lessen it. But I don't see how the sport is anything but enhanced by an informal understanding that you don't attack the yellow jersey when he's suffered from a mechanical or a crash. It shows respect for the jersey - the biggest prize in the sport.

I agree it might seem a bit of a throwback but win-at-all-costs makes for a pretty ugly spectacle, as we saw in the world cup when Uruguay went through because someone cheated.

So only the yellow jersey is immune then...what if the bloke second in the tour loses his chain....do they all stop and wait then, or does the first place bloke think that now is a good time to finally shake that ******* of my tail?

It's exactly the same thing. The yellow jersey stops and waits for him. I dunno how you got the impression that only the yellow jersey is immune.

Actually fredo's not quite right (I know, it's a real surprise) as it's a little more complex. It is the yellow jersey (and whoever's wearing it) but tends to apply, even more informally, to all those in with a realistic chance of winning it.

Neils sacred yellow jersey post possibly??

I very much doubt Schleck would have stopped had Contador yelled out. "Andyyyyyyyyyy, my chain snapped gis a dink up the hill would ya"

Schleck would have kept going. "Eat my rubber Contador!! Look after your chain better!"

On a related note...i know i can make my chain slip off if i push the gearing too far...what's to stop yer yellow jersey from doing the same if he suddenly sees his challenger making a move that he can't match?
