And the saddest thing about it is that it may not be enough to get Jones Jr to retire altogether

The guy was a PFP king in his prime,

          He's still an ATG

People don't piss on the legacies of Ali, Robinson or Duran because they fought on too long.
History will be kind to him.

BJS vs Andy Lee about to start on BoxNation.

            BJS MD Andy Lee

Two knockdowns in the third won it for BJS. That 10 - 7 round was crucial.

Saunders is a joy to watch. Not all action but his feints and footwork are fantastic.

            Onwards and upwards for BJS

Was not the greatest fight to be at, but BJS deserved his win.

100% agree about his footwork, feints, and D work. Was not the best I have seen BJS look in the ring, but he was still the better man on the night and hope he goes on to have a cracking career.

At times the fight resembled a sparring session and was a bit "too nice" (no surprise given how well Andy and Billy get along), but might be interesting to see if it is as cordial in the ring should the looked for rematch get the go ahead.

What I thought was very classy was how good BJS was with some members and ex members of St Francis Boxing club after the fight. There were some young lads and some old boys over and he made the kids feel ten foot high. It was just a few words here and there but some fighters would not even think of doing something like that on such a special night for themselves.

He did the same when he was in Limerick months ago doing promo work for the Thomond Park date that was cancelled. Back then he was quick to have a few words with kids from St Francis ABC, Corpus Christi ABC etc etc. Heard a lot of really nice things about BJS on that front.

It is something that I think a lot of fighters do not get enough credit for doing, and whilst Andy Lee has been a regular enough sight (not that it should diminish any kudos for doing so) over the years at local clubs, I think it was very classy of BJS to give some of his time to clubs that have no real ties to him.

Same goes for a lot of the Cuban fighters based in Cork. Fantastic with their time and them turning up at clubs outside of their adopted city is a really cool thing to do. No doubt there are loads of fighters all over Ireland and the UK doing likewise, but as said I think they really deserve to be named anytime anyone hears of them doing cool stuff like that. Is a side of the sport that should be getting headlines more often than it does.

I'm disappointed to be honest. I was hoping he'd fight Crawford or Khan

Khan ignored again by the top names. Is his talk costing him the fights with the likes of FM jnr and Manny or is he just not that big a draw ?

                    Comment

Despite all the shyte that gets spouted about him being a really big name, I think that he is not as massive a draw in America as he maybe should given his talent, and the lack of top class names in his W column plays no small part in
that. I should clarify that by really big name I mean top of the tree big and not just well known.

He is a known fighter and would certainly be known to the casual fans let alone the more avid followers of the sport, but he does not come with the sort of shine he once had. He is at an age where he cannot peddle the "potential great" line and really at 29 he should be established as a genuine top tier fighter rather than being a guy who has never beaten a top tier guy unless of course one considers names like Collazo, Algieri, a horribly faded Marco Antonio Barrera, Maidana and Diaz as top tier. A few of those were decent fighters when Khan met them but nowhere near the top of the tree.

I think his "draw" lessens with each year that passes with him avoiding the better second tier fighters (of which he is one until he actually manages to beat some second or top tier fighters).

I am no fan of Khan, but I really think it would be a shame if he continues to take easy fights as the guy does have talent and on his day he could give anyone in the division a tough night. Just feel that he will move heaven and hell to avoid being put in the ring with a durable heavy puncher and instead will talk a lot about Pac and Mayweather whilst going in against light enough hitters.

                        Surely he fights Brook now?

Tentative date of June 4th has apparently been agreed.

As undeserving as I may think Khan is at a crack at a mega money bout against Pac or Mayweather jr., based on a lack of top quality wins, I think Brook is undeserving of a big pay day against Khan for the very same reason.

Khan I might slag off for avoiding genuine top notchers and tough second tier fighters but he has fought (and beaten) much better fighters than the best that Brook has gone after.

Domestically it makes sense and will be hyped as a battle of Britain type event if it happens but Brook is the wrong Welterweight champion to go after if Khan wants to back up his claim of being one of the best, if not the best, in the division. Keith Thurman is the best active belt holder in the division and the top dog as a result. Yes he is a big puncher, but Khan has to be able to take on and beat the best punchers if he wants to be talking about being the best and beating a genuine top tier fighter would go a long way towards making people believe his claim.

Failing Thurman then Danny Garcia would be a very obvious match to make especially now that Garcia is at welterweight. Garcia has a very good rep and of course there would be the small matter of a chance to avenge his stoppage defeat to Garcia.

But Brook vs Khan? Smacks of one guy getting the big payday his track record does not yet warrant and the other guy taking the route that avoids the real threats in the division. Would fancy Khan to win by some distance with a unanimous points decision.

KI get the impression that Khan and his people have been looking to cash out with him hence why they've chased the big money fights against Mayweather and Pac. A fight against Brook is the next biggest earner after those two. Win or lose i wouldn't be too surprised if he were to retire after the fight.

You could well be right and if one were to think that way then a clash with Brook would be the next biggest low risk big pay day.

To be honest I hope you are wrong and that it is not part of a retirement plan, as I would love to see Khan just risk it all and go for it against a top tier fighter. Not out of any gra for the guy but rather to find out just how good or not he really is.
