LaMotta just passed away. I really put the mockers on him last week saying that I was surprised he was still alive. RIP

That's a shock, but if he does have physical/health issues relating to training then takes a lot for someone to quit when at the top of the mountain.

Am a fan of the guy, but if he is smart enough to get out before his health suffers then more power to him.

Aye he was, on both counts.

He is also a boxer who had the potential to be a great but he lost years in his prime to legal issues. Have little doubt that he is a future Hall of Famer, but can never be seen as a great thanks to that missed time.

He was one of those boxers that regardless of whether you liked him or not, you knew that the other guy would need his A game and then some to make it competitive.

I totally get why a lot of people did not like him. He could be very dirty in the ring, his personality could grate on people, and sometimes he did just what he had to in order to win, but damn did he have talent to burn and he could put it all together in the ring against anyone.

He was beautiful to watch in his own way. So balanced, so good at switching stances and working his fluid stance ideals into everything he did in the ring. He could out box you, he could outfight you, and he would be dirtier than you. Plus the guy was tough and had a good chin.

To be honest I liked the fact he could be dirty. Just meant he had the tools to use when a fight went into the gutter and there is something refreshing about seeing a super talented and highly skilled guy being able to wallow in the muck. Is like that super technical wrestler who can twist and stretch guys for fun, but chooses to stick a thumb in an eye instead just because he can.
