          Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

              I am in two minds about the honours system really. One one hand it's great that people who do outstanding things should be recognised, but on the other hand they have now become kind of expected, so it's considered a snub if people aren't offered them.

              A lot also seems to depend on what is in fashion at the time. It seems fashionable now to give honours to sports people, but thirty years ago that rarely happened.
