when bobby charlton won the lifetime award, I turned away all his man united teammates from entering by mistake

    Comment

      ****'s sake, this country.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Who were they trying to enter?

And I've been incredibly lucky to sell a loss-making business for a large amount of money.
No, wait, I thought he was going to say that but he hasn't. Sorry.

The commentary was humbling (if it can be so?). Made the event even better.

Cyclists are great. I am a cyclist myself. I have been a cyclist for many years. Going quickly makes your legs ache. Lungs take a pummelling too. Wiggo is great - comes across as a nice bloke trying to look like a mod. I can forgive that.

Some wag suggested that he deserves to win because of the skill required to go downhill amongst other cyclists at great speed. I've been doing that since I got on a bike! During my most reckless years I lived in the Pennines and guarantee that me and the chaps have been down (unclosed) roads bordered by beautiful and hard dry stone walls faster than most cyclists. It's what you do on a bike.

Relatively late in life (to-date) I came to tennis. It's fair to say that going quickly about a court makes your legs ache. Lungs take a pummelling too. Then you have to use the rest of your body to control the bat and return a projectile, which is often travelling at excessive speed at unfriendly angles, within a defined space.

Don't get me wrong, anyone at the peak of their sport has done something special.

But if there's any sport that is in a golden age right now, it's tennis. What Murray has achieved this year is astounding. There will be more from him. The relentlessness of the tennis tour is also not understood by SPOTY voters.

So - Murray won't win tonight. Unfortunately. I'm looking forward to the Oz open.

PS Seb Coe makes me puke.
