My Saturday and Sunday runs added. Roadend has a big, fast one to add by the sounds of it
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Birmingham 1/2 today. All going well till 9 miles then the sole of my left foot started hurting, getting progressively more painful but finished in 2.09 for my first half marathon and longest run so far. If I can get that sorted, my aim is for sub 2 hours next year.

I had a similar experience for my first half in September (but 4 mins slower than you dammit).

How did you find it overall? Enjoyable? I want to get under 2:06 as my next target, 6 mins per km, but my running has gone to pot recently. I find it a lot more difficult to go out in the dark.

I had you down as a full on marathon runner for some reason.

Overall, I enjoyed it. The crowds were great particularly in Bournville at the 5-6 mile point. I really only do parkrun 5k and 10k races so this was a step up in distance. There is a hill between 10.5 - 12 miles which is a real challenge at that point of the run. I reckon I lost about 5 minutes with my foot problem so need to get another gait analysis and check I've got the right shoes. My right foot is neutral but I think my left foot overpronates which caused the problem.

Gentle 7 miler to try to clear the head. Also puts me on exactly (according to strava) 1500km for the year. Going to have to step it up in the next couple of months!

Just read a couple of inspirational books that you runners might enjoy. Charlie Spedding-last to first and Christopher McDougal- born to run. Both very enjoyable. For those susceptible to injuries the Born to Run book examines the whole issue of natural running styles practiced by a tribe of Mexican Indian ultra runners. It will make you feel like throwing your chunky trainers away for good.

I've been going to the gym for a few months. I've been doing a Circuits class on a Monday with a PT and he's sick in the head - he takes pleasure from people suffering haha!

I asked him to do me a fitness programme for me to get the right weight and conditioning for next year's Karting Championship as it's very demanding and being "overweight" by 4Kg over the minimum weight will have an impact on my driving. I'm quick at the moment so if I can get to the correct weight etc I can fight for the top 3 at least in the championship.

The programme he's given me is insane. 3 of the 4 days includes many quarter mile sprints in addition to so many lifts and core work. This is going to kill me haha.

Born to run is a great read, given it out a few times as presents. I tried the whole minimal running because of it but it's not for me - although i'm glad it gave me a go. Also made me get rid of my watch for a lot of training runs and just listen to what my body was telling me.

Scott Jurek has written quite a few good books - Eat and Run being one of them, but for American enthusiasm (which i know isn't everyones taste) i don't think you can beat Dean Kanazas for a good running read. Ultramarathon man is pretty inspirational even if you're not going for those distances it's just awesome to see what the human body can achieve! Also Run! and 50/50 are both good.
