That's fair enough. I think you're being sensible which is a good option.

As Diana and the baby are away for 17 days I'm trying to run 75km while they're gone. It equates 12 6km runs. It's going to be fairly tough I think, but some of the runs I do will be over 10km so that should give me the odd extra rest day.

Next up for me is Tri. I was considering training for a full marathon again but I'm already falling to pieces and 18 mile training runs bore the life out of me so this is a fun option. Just need to learn to swim now.

And anyone who does run... I'd highly recommend sports massage. It's brill. Oh and find and join a rubbing club. It's helped me get my times down no end (as well as being full of golly nice folk).
That's a bit un-P.C. mate, bit I suppose you're right - train with the best.

        This gets on my Norbs...

I tried a shorter faster run this morning. My techno kits is my Galaxy Note 2 (I know, this is like weight training ) and the Adidas MiCoach app which tracks GPS route with elevation, pace, distance and time. Once home it syncs with the Adidas MiCoach website and I get a score. Anyway, whether it's the weather or something else, I noticed that Johnny Wilkinson wasn't giving me my 1/4mile updates and it really kicked me off sync. I stopped to check the GPS which wasn't recording properly and that killed any momentum I thought I had. Then I realised that Sam's Town was playing through my headset and I had to stop to put on Meteora

Doing a workout is tough enough but if it's for nothing then that really gets on my Norbs. I've now entered it manually - 3.23m (5.2km) in 29:14 in heavy rain, or averaging out to a 28min 5k. Not bad considering I ended up stopped 3 times What it does tell me is that I was no faster than when I ran twice the distance earlier this week.

I did some Plantar stretches and so far so good. Have to wait until Monday and better weather to see if I can put in a more decent time. Decided my weekly goal is going to be 2 x 5k and 1 x 10k but I can get a bit obsessive with these things...

And now I'm getting exercise guilt that 5k wasn't enough this morning. Seriously thinking about doing the same route this afternoon. ****ing obsessions

I really enjoy doing the parkrun 5K every week because I find I get far better times running with a group of people. I find out from the results who is running just a bit quicker than me and then use them as an unofficial pacemaker. Having said that, I've stopped trying do a pb every time I run as it's not a good idea. Training for 10K makes a big difference to your 5k time after a while.

The other thing I'm doing to improve my stamina is strength training and mixing up my runs through the week, e.g. interval, tempo, hills. It also relieves the boredom of running the same route all the time.

Anyone done anything about 'friction' issues before?

I'm noticing the more I increase my mileage, the more I suffer from being hairy downstairs. Wondering if a sack and crack might help.....

I've had a bad back for the last month or so, and my osteopath suggested large vitamin C supplements... According to him, (although it is backed up by some research, and anecdotal reports) Vitamin C is key to the production of collagen... He takes 5000mg a day... Ive been hovering around the 4000mg mark, and my back has improved faster in the 2 weeks I've been taking it than before... It might be dubious science, but worst case you may get a touch of diahorea, but it tastes nice in the effervescent tablets, and the 1000mg ones are pretty cheap in tescos...
Good luck mate, bad backs suck big time...

20km running done during the bank holiday weekend. Tired now though, I'm still woefully out of shape

Bodyglide works for me. Better on nips too (although I'd spring for nip guards if you want to be mega safe).

Although that said you can always go neat and bust out the savlon post shower
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

My mum has a dodgy knee and ankle and started taking collagen supplements, they do wonders for her. She's a caterer so on her feet all day. She used to take a **** load of pain killers but hardly every has to now due the collagen supplements she takes.

Any of you runners include some strength training as part of your weekly plan? Building stronger legs will help with your running & help support the knee joint with all the impact caused from running heavy squat lunges & step ups are good exercises to include on your gym days

Very hungover on Sat but managed to stagger out of bed & down to the opening day at a gym nearby & do a bit of impromptu strongman training with Mark Felix. Was unsteady on me pins, hungry & thirsty & didnt even have time to do me mohawk!

I'm the one on the left:

Got to play with logs, farmers walk, atlas stones etc. Was ace. Wish I'd got there earlier, warmed up & not hungover though!
                                3rd place. Worst champions ever.
