Cheers guys. I just realised that your time for 10k is significantly better than mine too. How old are you Scara?

I've been training for the Great Manchester 10K since February having not really run at all before. I've got my 5k down to 26mins 30secs and I am running the 10K at a slightly slower pace. My target for the 10K is to break the 55 minute mark.

I do a parkrun every Saturday morning. I really recommend them is there's one near you.

I use the Endomondo app and find that really good.
Yep, I'm registered to do the Park run, we're near the Riddlesdown one

Really recommend the My Fitness Pal app, lost a stone in a month or so. Really good app to keep track of what your eating.

Here is my diet tip. Take a few days off smoking weed a week. Maybe Monday or Tuesday as your diet days. (I would not recommend smoking crack to compensate) Then your free to binge for the rest of the week to compensate for two days of living on rations. Live like a sultan with your big breasted wife Mary Jane.

Ran my first 10k of the year in 50m

Got another 3 to do in the next 4 weeks. Hopfully get under the 48 minute mark for the final race in the series.

To offer some sort of contrast the winner of the race last night ran it in 31m

Does sound like a metatarsal injury. Better get it checked out

Rubbish if it is. The ball of my left foot is also hurting like hell now. I'm falling apart.

                      Anyone suffered from Shin Splints?

What can I do to ease/prevent them but still carry on training?

I've had crippling shin splints a few times and they are a cunt of a thing.

Only thing really sorted them was rest and avoiding what gave me them in the first place. The first time I got them I was playing 5-a-side on hard floor practically every day and it got to the stage where I actually couldn’t stand. I then got them badly another time using a treadmill.

I went to the doctor and physio and all they recommended was stretches which didn’t really work and I bought bandage type things that were supposed to help but didn’t. Rest was the only thing that really worked sadly.

                          ****, I thought that'd be the case.

How'd you get yours? Are they at the uncomfortable stage or actually painful?

I never used to tie my shoe laces either which didn't help, so obvioulsy I make sure I do now.

Yes, rest was the only thing that worked for me. Playing five-a-side on tarmac caused it.

I didn't have it that bad but I think I stopped playing for several weeks at least. Then again it would have been quicker if I'd been younger, everything takes longer to heal once you hit middle age.
                              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Shin splints tend to indicate that your legs aren't getting enough cushioning/support from your shoes so your legs are taking the brunt of the force of running.

Get yourself some proper supportive running shoes will help and plenty of rest until they feel better.

If you're playing footie however I've not yet come across a decent pair of supportive boots or astro trainers sadly.
