There's a calendar document on there detailing what you need to do on each day. So day 1 Fit test, Day 2 Pure Cardio or whatever

cheers for that..much appreciated. i have been looking at a few peoples comments online and i think i will struggle at the start..used to be quite fit but i have had a bad shoulder/neck for a while so haven't done a lot recently, tried to get back in to kettle bell training but was to painful... shoulder is fine now though..think it was all stress related as literally the day after i got married it went away..anyway will let you know how it goes

quite looking forward to this as have two months off work and little to do

Just got back from Northumberland Coastal 14 miler from Beadnell to Alnmouth. Without doubt the most beautiful run I've ever done but ****ing hell it was brutal. Multi terrain, 6 miles of the 14 on beaches with most the rest running up big hills and dirt tracks. I've scored for a cracking vest tan too. 1920s swimsuit style! Round in an hour forty-three and man do I ache!

But I'd say that any runners who don't mind a bit of travel should get on it. It's a brill race!
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

I just went for a ride. Part of the route coincided with a sportive. I passed several riders who were about ninety miles in - some suffering cramp, one being treated by "medical support", all of them looking exhausted.

It's boiling out there. It reminds me of the time I was locked inside a hot car with all the windows closed...

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I've just run 10k for the first time in my life, aged 44. 56mins 10secs, which I'm made up with tbh. My running partner thinks I should enter a 10k race and she's convinced I'd shave 2 mins off that through excitement/adrenalin/competitive spirit. Not sure I agree

                    Nice one mate.

I have gone way way way backwards in my 5k training. So I know how tough it is to achieve that.

That's brilliant and sub 1hr for your first ever 10km is very good too!

You should definitely do a 10km, just for the enjoyment and sense of achievement. She's right too with the adrenaline you'd definitely do sub 55mins.

But she? She? Oh do tell old boy!

It's weird really. I had got right in to rowing in February and notched up 140,000m by mid April. Then we had guests and I had to put the rower in another room and I've not got on it since. I've been busy at work and it's been too warm to run for me recently but trying to go out 2/3 times a week.

Keep plugging away at it mate, the speed with which your fitness improves is pretty drastic. I've gone from having my heart at 160 after half a mile and not being able to get enough air, to not getting it that high through my whole run and feeling that I could carry on for longer.

5km is really very doable for almost any level of fitness IMO. You just need to learn to run at your own pace, however slow that may be at the start.

In fact put the extra effort in and it could be you doing the 10km soon enough!

If I were you I'd sign up to a 10km run for some time in the future. Then go public asking for sponsorship. Once you've told everyone then you're shamed into having to do it. That'll keep you motivated.

                            Do it.

Fair enough, but how did you find her as a running partner in the first place?

I can run 5k. But I dont want to be 'just' able to run it. I want to do it sub 30minutes like Norbs did. So training and easing my way is the best option. Couch to 5k was doing me brilliantly until I got food poisoning, and then had a chest infection.
