Got a stinking cold at the moment so running has had to go on hold. It sucks, because with Asthma in the background a cold always usually turns into a cough and occasionally a chest infection. Just as I was getting started too
The missus went for therapy the other week and her physio says to take this sport up as it's really good for helping bad joints which I suffer from, in addition to this it's supposed to burn more fat and improve your core strength.
I purchased some Gabel Nordic walking poles last night so I'm looking forward to giving it a go. Was wondering whether anyone on here does it.
Thanks.

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.

Sounds like you're doing pretty well Alex
I've been doing all my running on a treadmill and averaging 15k a week. A friend recommended interval training on a treadmill to improve speed and strength and it's started to pay off. Today I broke my 1k record (now 4m25sec) and my 5k record (26m5secs).
Before joining the gym I was finding it really hard to speed up and pounding the pavements was more painful the faster I tried to run. Being 47 doesn't help either as my body isn't really used to it.

Was doing well until I got taken down. Planning on going out tonight and kicking myself back onto it. This cold has wiped a week off my life
Good work with the treadmill work though. I have been told that running on a 0.5% incline is a good way to simulate more road conditions. So maybe it would push you harder and make you even better for doing that?
Also, age is just a number mate. Dont hide behind being 47 Your 5k time is 2 minutes better than mine and im 15 years younger than you.
You'll reach that level I reckon and do much better. I've only run for a few years and was really crap when I started out. It does seem a bit daft though when you feel your knees and ankles killing you
I feel sick today after my workout on Monday. I feel like I'm having hot flashes and my stomach muscles feel really tight, particularly close to my sternum. Hope I haven't overdone it...
