Emile Heskey - Blazing a trail through The A League

Emile Heskey will consider leaving Aston Villa in the January transfer window as he looks to secure a place in England's 2010 World Cup finals squad.

The 31-year-old has started only one Premier League match this season.

England coach Fabio Capello appears to favour Heskey but the striker still fears for his place in South Africa.

"I will have to sit down and think about my next move," he said. "I don't know whether I can get a World Cup place if I'm not playing for Villa."

Heskey played in the 1-0 defeat in Ukraine on Saturday and has started six of England's nine World Cup qualifiers in the current campaign.

"I'm happy to be playing for England and, obviously, not playing at club level is difficult," he stated.

"It's something I will have to look at when I get back and try to address it."

The former Liverpool striker joined Aston Villa from Wigan for £3.5m in January, linking up again with manager Martin O'Neill after a previous spell together at Leicester City.

Heskey has won 57 England caps since making his debut against Hungary in 1999.

Can I just say, in advance of the suggestion being made:

NOT IN A MILLION SODDING YEARS.

      Thanks.

Yeah exactly no thanks, he's the ultimate 1 month a season player

I remember when Villa signed him he scored on his debut and a few on here were asking why we hadn't signed him. He's done **** all since as expected.
But from his point of view obviously he needs to be playing regularly. Its his own fault he's not

Apart from the odd game when he's unplayable, Emile Heskey is a woeful footballer.

I don't like saying that either as i've alot of time for the man.

Says a lot that he can't manage to think about his move standing up.

It's pretty shoddy that someone who's started only one game for Villa this season is a regular starter for England

Yeah but it obviously works for England so i dont see why Capello gets criticism for picking him. Werent England the top scorers in qualifying?

He doesnt score himself but obviously allows others to get the goals.

                    Wouldnt want him back mind.

I remember when O'Neill bought him and he scored the winner in his first game. I think it was against Portsmouth. The media were raving about MON and saying what a genius he was. No-one in the media is slagging him off now and saying what a waste of money he was.

Imagine the stick Rafa would be getting if he had bought him instead and he wasn't holding down a place. Aquilani is already been written off by some. Even one paper said last week that he wasn't living up to his price tag.

The English media borders on outright racism if you ask me

                        You sometimes wonder dont you?

Maybe im biased or a little defensive of him but Rafa gets criticised by the media, pundits and commentators way more than other managers IMO. During games some of the comments about him seem outright bizarre and totally mindboggling. Ferguson, O'Neill etc never have to put up with that level of ****, even the other foreign managers dont so it's probably not racism. I think it has a lot to do with the received wisdom (generally spouted by Sky) about Rafa and the continual calling and questioning of his methods so everyone now accepts/thinks he's stubborn and has weird techniques. Perhaps cos he doesnt play ball with the media too much has an affect too.

He couldn't be a bad option off the bench.

Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan has hinted he could bid to bring Emile Heskey back to the DW Stadium in the New Year.
