Nah he didnt, he said "we havent discussed it further" or something regarding Napoli's offer then the mirror twisted that in to Rodgers saying we wont let him go on loan.Originally posted by ronanm View PostI thought I read BR said there's no chance Reina will be loaned, next thing he is. Who's in charge of the asylum?

Totally - have really not been sure why some people didn't seem to see this.Originally posted by McDermotX View PostYep.....nothing surprising there. Reina waited for Barca, Barca in the end didn't shoot their load, Rodgers was, rightly, unable to dick about on a 'will he, won't he' and brought in someone who he hopes will improve the team.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.

And I must face the men I slew.

Mine angry and defrauded young?

That said I'm pretty sure Rodgers/the club definitely said Mignolet was signed as competition for Reina. So much bull**** in football. I mean, no-one believed that but they treat us with contempt. I don't just mean Rodgers/LFC - all football clubs and managers do it. Sick of it. Just be open and honest FFS. All the cloak and dagger bull****...I'm sick of it.Originally posted by ronanm View Postah, thanks

Last man from when?Originally posted by Alex View PostYou would hope we got a loan fee and they are paying his wages too. But yeah, we did pretty well considering the circumstances.
I will miss him though. Poor old Lucas is the last man standing.
If you mean Rafa what about Agger, Johnson & Gerrard?I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Looks like I was pretty much on the money here.Originally posted by Reece View PostHere's what I think, all based on guesses perhaps but at least that's keeping in the spirit of the thread
1. We were hoping that we'd be able to sell Reina to Barcelona, and he really wanted to go there so it was win-win for both parties. For us - age and wages were an issue (rightly or wrongly).
2. Valdes put a spanner in the works there.
3. We could have persisted with Reina, but we really rated Mignolet and didn't want the opportunity to sign him go by and lose him to someone else, so we did that deal regardless.
4. Reina has made it clear that he would not move permanently to anyone but Barcelona, and that was moot as no one else bid for him anyway.
5. Barcelona have told him/us they'll buy him next summer.
6. Rather than sit on the bench with us, Reina agreed to be re-united with Rafa at Napoli for this season.
7. We get a loan fee which covers his wages, and then a transfer fee next summer when he moves to Barca.
8. Mignolet excels this season and everyone realises what a masterstroke it all was
Simple really
On a separate note, did Pepe ever have his own song? And are we get to nick Sunderland's Mignolet song?

Yes, it was a fine summary of the bleeding obvious.Originally posted by Reece View PostLooks like I was pretty much on the money here.
.
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Yeah, but at the time he said that we hadn't got an offer for Reina from Napoli or anywhere else, so there was a serious risk he was going to end up staying. In which case you can't demotivate him by saying Mignolet is the new No.1, or Mignolet by saying Reina remains no.1. We might have all known it was bull****, but I can't imagine him or any other manager saying anything different given the circumstances.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostThat said I'm pretty sure Rodgers/the club definitely said Mignolet was signed as competition for Reina. I think the club has handled it really well to be honest. I like the fact that there's a hint of treating Reina with lots of respect and trying to do what's best for him given the years of service he's given us too (even if it was really pure business sense that was driving it). I hope it all works out for Reina now and he gets his move to Barca next summer.
