He must have willingly joined Napoli really as he couldn't be forced to go out on loan to them.

I am disappointed that I will not be part of that and although it was not my decision to leave I will accept it just like I have always accepted any decision that Liverpool have taken for me.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

To be fair he admits himself he told them he was waiting on an offer from Barca. If they'd sat around on their hands waiting to see what happened we could have ended up in a situation where we were desperate and our preferred target was already sold on.

Of course it's understandable, but I don't really see it as the club being disloyal or mistreating him either, they just had to prepare.

Good luck to Reina anyways, great player and great guy. Wish him nothing but the best.

Why would he bother? It really doesn't suit Pepe's character at all.

Pepe is disappointed after 8 years at the club, because he had some good times , but at the end of the day he made it clear that if Barca came in for him he would want to leave.

What could liverpool do? THey found a replacement and they needed to find a world class goalkeeper, and you cannot ask a world class player to sit on the bench.

There is no way Pepe in a world cup year would also sit on the bench so something had to give. Liverpool found a nice solution for him courtesy of Rafa at napoli.

If you make statements like I want to go to Barca, what does one expect is going to happen?

Having said that I wish Pepe all the best. I feel for him because he appears to be destined to be a bridesmaid for all his career and never the bride.

I think we will miss Pepe's fancy footwork as I beleive Simon is weak in this area, but overall Simon will turn out to be a great acquisisiton

It seems to me it was business, we'd spent £9M + wages on a new keeper with I am guessing the expectation that Pepe would be off.

The move to Barca didn't happen so we had a player on £100k + on the bench, makes sense we organised him to move on.

Really hope he has a great season at Napoli as he seems a genuinely nice guy and a real fan

Reds confirm Pepe Reina loan move

                29th Jul 2013 - Latest News

Liverpool Football Club have today confirmed that Pepe Reina has joined Napoli on a season-long loan deal.

The goalkeeper will spend the 2013-14 campaign with the Italian side, who are managed by former Reds boss Rafael Benitez.

Reina moved to Anfield from Villarreal in the summer of 2005 and has since made 394 appearances for the club.
Short and not very sweet from the offal.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I don’t think he’s bothered about that, I’m sure he knows Barca are to blame for what happened. He said he’s annoyed that the club agreed terms with Napoli without consulting him first.

As I said before, I’m sure he was/is happy to join Napoli, but how hard would it have been for the club to tell him that they were looking to offload him and Napoli were interested?

Other than on the pitch, I think that he offered a huge amount on the training field and in the dressing room which can't be replaced as quickly.

One of the few players that have left the playing side recently that I had admiration for as a person as well as a player.

                    Good Luck PEPE

                        I need new glasses.

                        Perhaps.

Either way it's the typical leaping to a predetermined conclusion that confirms the established narrative, where every piece of new information is shaped to fit in the available space in the jigsaw. And that is then used as further evidence to reinforce the predetermined conclusion, in a neverending circle of ****e logic.

FWIW (which is the cube root of f*ck all) I agree with Shaggy and Tee and others about not blaming Reina for being interested in going to Barcelona, and agree with the point that the club had little choice but to prepare for his departure.

And I believe Reina when he says he wasn't told face-to-face - I simply don't think most people make up stuff like that - and that is not to the credit of whoever might have been responsible.
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Wouldn't 99% of our squad want to leave if Barcelona made a bid?

                            Isn't that normal practice?

They receive an offer, once terms are agreed they notify the player and allow them to discuss and if they wish agree terms with the interested party?

I would guess Rafa saw an opportunity to work with Reina again and jumped in. I'm sure it will work out well for all in the long term.

It used to be about the quality of player first and foremost, but nowadays its all about the resale value when we sign players.
