When did the world cup become some kind social philanthropy scheme, and FIFA a political organisation? It's a football tournament FFS sake. Who will put on a good show, there's your criteria. And I'm ****ed if a joint Belgium / Holland bid could do that better than England.

Maybe england wasn't the best option but no ****ing way was it the worst. FIFA are sticking two fingers up at England. They don't like being found to be corrupt, and they haven't been ashamed to say it. If they were less arrogant they'd have evened out the votes to make it look like a reasonable contest. They didn't, they said 'we had the power now **** off, rock the boat and you'll pay'.

The problem is FIFA dont define some kind of criteria for the bidding nations. It's all well and good getting technical and commercial reports done etc but what's the point if they're just going to get ignored. There's no doubting England could have put on a great World Cup but i think the bigwigs at FIFA had pretty much made up their mind as to where they wanted to hold it.

The whole process is inherently flawed and to hold the vote for 2022 at the same time was bordering on the farcical. I have a feeling the whole thing was engineered to ensure they got the decisions they wanted.

I think taking the World Cup to Russia and Qatar is a brave move and may well turn out to be for the good of the game and spread it even further. However, i think the reasons for taking it there are entirely motivated by greed rather than from a philanthropic standpoint.

I'd have preferred it if they'd just announced where they were going to hold it rather than have this bizarre event/conference/media circus /bribe, schmooze and grovel fest.

Not everything is black and white. If it was the case of who would host the best world cup then England would have won. Having time to reflect it is a good thing that the WC is going to a country yet to host it, However the ethics of giving it to Russia i what stinks. Putin didn't bother going today as he bloody knew they had it in the bag.

It costs a hell of a lot to put on a World Cup. Someone mentioned it would have cost us £460m, and that is with most of the stadia in place.

Do FIFA contribute? Of course not. But they do cream off most of the revenue for themselves. Outrageous.

FIFA and UEFA are a shame and its about time the leading countries FA's got together and ousted these corrupt crooks. Even if it was just the FA's from the european countries it would seriously screw FIFA and UEFA as without the European teams there would be no credible world cup and it would be bye bye sponsors.

If this is true that I'm quite proud of our tradition of investigative journalism ( as opposed to celebrity butt sniffing).
