Never said he was poor defensively vs City, i mentioned the two occasions he got caught out. What i said was that he gave the ball away so much & slowed out attacks down... seems i'm not the only one with that opinion.

He has been generally poor defensively for quite some time, but i get that there has to be give and take with modern day full backs.. that's fair enough. But as a whole his poor defensive displays have outweighed his good attacking performances which is his best asset... and that's a problem. Surely not even the most avid GJ fan can say he's not been below par for quite some time now?

Not saying he's been a liability or that he's ****.... but he has been under performing for quite some time & IMO really needs competition. Seems i am not the only one with this opinion either.... so contrary to what some are saying, it's not me on a witch hunt

I know you didn't, it was the giving the ball away so much in the second half that I had issue with as it wasn’t that apparent to me. As I said the only noticeable thing I picked up on was his letting a ball go out of play after misjudging it, and although his passing wasn’t at his very best, it certainly wasn’t worryingly poor. You specifically mention the 2nd half, but the 5 passes he misplaced were mostly long passes that lost possession about the half way line, so away from danger and not disrupting a dangerous attacking move. Again hardly worrying IMO, and certainly not worth focusing on after an impressive possible season winning performance.

The slowing up play is hard to evaluate at this stage. Personally I think his comfort in receiving the ball and holding on to it is an asset rather than a weakness, which is why IMO we generally play better when he is on the field. I haven’t noticed too many times a quick counter attack breaking down because of this, but also I’m not arguing that it hasn’t.

Why your post match comments stood out was having just watched the match again I was thinking he did ok and generally has been playing well since returning from injury. He’s certainly not back in top form yet, but I don’t think he’s done too much wrong since getting back in the side.

Edit: What were the two occasions he got caught out, I must have missed that post?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Personally i think his game isn't as progressive as it was, he seems hesitant or lacking his old confidence when going forward.

As for his defensive side of the game, generally i'm not a huge fan of his defensive positional sense. Ever since Hansen's critique of him the other year (September 2012 MOTD 2 highlights cannot find the video anyways) i'm always looking at his body shape and positioning.

A perfect example of that .. i didn't mention and after looking at the game again, was the second goal. The deflection for the own goal is fair enough it happens but he doesn't close down Silva beforehand, gets drawn into Nasri who Gerrard has & he loses that yard on Silva. Silva is world class and defenders will make mistakes but it has happened a lot with Johnson over the last few seasons.

As i said though generally i'm not a fan of him defensively.. but he was ok defensively vs City to be fair. Having an attacking fullback most of the time means that you will have to sacrifice some things defensive, that's fair enough. When you watch Johnson defending... the thing that bothers me most is that he lets so many crosses come into the box. He stands off and stands off, giving away that extra yard of space and time. In such a dangerous area around the box IMO he gives too much time away before he engages.

He is a good player, but i think he has been way off his best for awhile now. His pace and drive seems to have subsided & IMO he seems that bit hesitate to drive forward. For me with him recently it's not a case of keeping possession or waiting for support.. more so lacking in confidence and sharpness.

Anyways for the hundred time to others who keep harping on about how much i hate Johnson, i don't think GJ is **** at all and anyone that says that i have an agenda with him or the likes... their just on a wind up or looking for an argument. i just think he is off form. Clearly i'm not on my own with that statement, people on here and other LFC forums have said similar. That's not to mention LFC fans that i know or talk to.

Anyways i hope that in the next 4 games he can get back to his best, show what he can do & help us push on to the title

Have to query the goal though. You said he doesn't close Silva down, but he actually toes the ball away from him but it goes to Nasri. Nasri plays it right back to Silva, which leads to the shot and deflection.

I'm sure if he watches it back he'd say to himself that he could have done certain things different, but he was also a bit unlucky that Nasri was where he was, otherwise the attack may have been stopped.

I'd post a video of the goal, but can't do so from work.

It's no worries mate i've watched the goal back and yes he does toe poke it away initially but he doesn't stay with his man, he gets drawn in to Nasri, who Gerrard already has.

Maybe we interpret it different & to be honest that's perfectly fine. Anyways upwards and onwards

How much time and space did he have on the ball but did feck all with it. He is such a predictable footballer player. 99% of the time he just cuts inside and when he did carry the ball forward he just ran straight into a Chelsea player. Please upgrade on this lazy arse in the summer Rodgers.

No doubt about it or keep him as a squad player. His defending has never been great but going forward he's been pretty good over the years. Now he offers absolutely nothing.
