Andy Carroll will be making a mistake if he turns down the chance to join West Ham permanently, according to Joe Cole.

The Hammers have agreed a fee with Liverpool for the big striker after he impressed on a season-long loan at Upton Park.

Carroll, though, is believed to be giving serious thought to staying at Anfield to fight for a first team-place, but Cole claims joining the east London club would be a better career move for the 24-year-old.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the midfielder said: “We play to suit him, we play around him. We try to get good quality balls into the box for him and that is going to be valuable. If I was him, I would be wanting to stay at West Ham.

“The lads love him and the fans have taken to him. If he keeps himself fit he can get 20-30 goals next season and really kick on."

Cole himself made the switch from Liverpool to West Ham in January but has seen his second spell with his boyhood club disrupted by injury.

And the 31-year-old, who won the last of his 56 England caps in 2010, is targeting a return to top form next season.

“The season has been frustrating for me because I have had four hamstring problems, which have limited me to 15 games or so," he said.

“Going back [to Upton Park] has been a highlight, but next season I want to push on and stay fit and play 35, 40 games.”

According to Chris Bascombe he's genuinely desperate for another crack at it with us. I think that's understandable and even admirable on Andy's part. However, I think Rodger's really needs to be blunt on this one. That's not an option. Ever.

I genuinely think it's in bost clubs best interests for him to take the West Ham deal. He'll do just fine with them and we'll do just fine without him

I don't think is that at all.

As Sarb said imo he wants to go back to NUFC, which is his preferred destination, and that's why he is unwilling to sign for WHU atm.

hopefully when he has a choice of our bench and West Ham and probably the World cup he will change his mind.
