Well I really liked the look of Carroll when he was playing for Newcastle ... these days he looks like a young man with the weight of the world on his shoulders and he is surround by a team who has not quite worked out how to use him, once it all clicks and I truly think it will, him and Louie we be unplayable

Do you have any empirical evidence upon which you are basing these opinions?Originally posted by MrNice View PostWell I really liked the look of Carroll when he was playing for Newcastle ... these days he looks like a young man with the weight of the world on his shoulders and he is surround by a team who has not quite worked out how to use him, once it all clicks and I truly think it will, him and Louie we be unplayable
Or are you just clutching at straws?
Because it sounds pretty desperate....

My point was that he has some limitations (which player doesn't) and that he can turn things around and be a good player for our club but he needs to work hard to improve his shortcomings and take advantage of his strenghts and currently he is not doing that.

I'm not writing Carroll off, I think he can be decent, his attitude has improved in recent weeks which is promising. However, when you consider other alternatives I don't think that Carroll has shown anything to justify that he was worth all of that. I know people say that the fee doesn't matter, fair enough I don't agree but that's an opinion. By gauging his fee against other players who would cost something similar then it is a direct comparison. 35m would've bought us almost 2 Balotelli's. Getting someone who is a similar kind of player like Llorente for example highlights this. Regardless how well Carroll develops for me he'll most likely always be inferior to Llorente. Or going for a different kind of forward like Rossi spring to mind. Hence regardless of how well Carroll turns out or not, I'm of the opinion we've missed a trick and wasted a potential super signing. Although if he improves, starts playing well and scoring then my latter concern will evaporate.

IMO people are continually overlooking the fact that we now have money - a good bit of money for transfers and as a result we are going to be quoted astrological prices for players who normally wouldn't be worth it (ie Carroll, downing etc...)
These players wouldn't have cost spurs or arsenal that amount. Had we went for a 35 mill striker such as balotelli or llorente we would have been quoted the full 50 mill that we got for Torres. We are not city or Chelsea and we won't get ripped off as much as them but we are going to be quoted higher prices given our new financial position.
Plus, English players are always gonna cost more because as the world knows English players are the greatest players in the world!People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

We vastly overpayed. There can be no argument over that IMO.
For me the value or not in a deal is given by the alternatives that could be got for the similar money and also how the signings work out at their respective new clubs. We know there were better options available at that money but nobody knows yet how each will turn out over the life of their contracts.
He may well turn out to be worth 35 million in years to come and he has time on his side to do it but he had done nothing before we signed him, apart from being born in England, for him to be valued at that ludicrous price.Time will tell on the true value of the deal, like so many big money signings.
i think he will be a decent option for us over time ,but will ultimately be a bit like Berbatov, overpriced and under played

I wasn't I was just reflecting on your post. Based on your post we can say the following about CarrollOriginally posted by Mostar View PostNo need to make my post in what it wasn't intended to be.
My point was that he has some limitations (which player doesn't) and that he can turn things around and be a good player for our club but he needs to work hard to improve his shortcomings and take advantage of his strenghts and currently he is not doing that.
1:He struggles to head the ball
2:He cannot create chances for himself
3:He cannot create chances for others
4:He has poor movement and anticipation in the box
5:He cannot hold theball up
6:He has a poor touch
7:He cannot beat a defender
8:He has slow reflexes and is slow to react
£35m sound a bargain?
Why on earth would anyone think this guy can come good?

Ffs it was a statement of intent.
Imagine the outcry with new owners if we took the £50 million for Torres and didnt reinvest it.
All the ****e with Hicks and Gillette bleading us dry? The press would have had a field day for 7 months and morale would have hit proper rock bottom.
Carroll was on our radar from Rafa seeing him in an academy match a few years earlier and in my opinion he will prove to be worth every penny. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
