No I am not pessimistic. I am just a realist and rational.

Many of the people on here have more mood swings than a moody teenager. Any slightly good thing and we are the greatest in the world, and any slightly bad thing and its the end of the world and a large amount of vitriol follows.

The truth is always somewhere in between.

Downing. A much better signing than I and many others thought. Very good and can do a very good job in the league but not world class. He brings great balance to the team.

Adam. Nice passing and set pieces. Very unathletic and not just unfit. The latter can be improved. He may come up short in games against top class opposition but will do great against the majority of dross in this league.

Enrique. A superb signing and great value.

Henderson. Many had doubts including me. But you can see that there is one hell of a footballer in there just waiting to be developed.

Suarez. As I said before he even kicked a ball by the end of last season we would see him as our best player, and the end of this season we will see him as the best in the league. Class. And he cannot be kicked out of the game

Carroll. Very limited. Not a top class player nor is there any potential to be so. A massively overpriced mistake.

Our play this season has been very good in spells (i.e first half against Sunderland, most of the games against Arsenal and Bolton, patchy against Exeter). But we are not great and will not prove to be consistent. We will finish fourth. We have no chance of the title this year. We are too far behind. Unless FSG have very deep pockets then we will not win the title for at least 4 years or so.

Is that ok for you cupcake?

I don't think Adam will come up short against top class opposition, he never did for Blackpool so why couldn't he do it here?

Great point in there regarding how Suarez doesn't get booted out of games. Mentally, he's far stronger than Torres ever was

I've seen some WUMs on here, and you're one of the worst.

But Torres never got booted out of games either. He always stood up to the challenge, facing up the likes of Terry and getting kicked ****less at Reading and answering with a hat-trick. Granted that changed a little and he began moaning a lot, but one of the things I first loved about him was his willingness to fight and take the knocks.

                  Aye, let's not rewrite history.

IMO its still far too early to judge Carroll. It is clear to anybody who watched him at newcastle last season that he has great potential. He has not had the greatest of starts but i think it is being blown out of proportion by some fans, especially those who compare his new lfc career to that of Suarez's who has been phenomenal. Its unfair to expect Andy to start as well as luis because alot of players do not. Carroll had a goal disallowed controversially against sunderland and was unlucky not to score when wojiech produced a brilliant save from his header at arsenal, had those goals counted/ gone in i guarentee you the people moaning about him would be lauding him.

He has seemed frustrated when he has played this season though and has not been as involved as he could be, i think part of the reason is that the team play differently when he is in the side, they play more long balls to him and while andys biggest strength is undoubtedly his aerial prowess, he is far from being a one-dimensional player. i think he would benefit from getting the ball to feet more often, as Danny Agger highlighted recently pass and move football has been a catalyst for instant change for the team and i agree that this is when the team play the best football. With or without carroll on the field it should be like that!

i believe Carroll will come good, yes we paid over odds but we were forced to, he's still only 21 and is living away from home in a new city for the first time ever. If not then we can still have some sell on value but its useless to sit there and slate him this early on.

He ripped the **** out of us last year... I'm just glad we don't have to play against him again this year.

I'm so excited. And I just cant hide it. I'm about to loose control and I think I like it.

My problem with Carroll is that mentally he's not the player he was at Newcastle. He was fearless in a black & white shirt & made defenders **** themselves. He single handedly tore all FOUR of Arsenal's defenders a new one at the Emirates last season - now the likes of a Wes Brown can keep him quiet!
I'm not having a go at him, it happens to a lot of players who simply can't handle the pressure of being at a big club.
If he sorts his head out, then we might see the Andy Carroll who did so well at Newcastle last season...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

I see we could be looking at another striker, and it got me thinking about AC, and as he's still very young, could anyone see him playing a different role to out and out striker in future ?

Although i do think he can fit into our pass and move style of play, so long as we don't get the urge to lump it when he plays, but to do that productively he needs to work on his movement, get that sorted and any lack of pace will be nullified almost.
