Andy Carroll doesn’t strike me too much as a confidence player. He seems far too laid back to let outside influences bother him too much and although I do accept like any striker that form and confidence can have a positive influence on his game, I doubt lack of it is the cause of his current problems. Again, like mentioned before, why would he even be low on confidence? He got a move to a big club, the fans instantly took to him, he scored pretty early in our colours, got off the mark for England and had a decent enough pre-season after injury. I don’t buy it.

I’ve also seen a few people mention that he appears lazy or disinterested and isn’t putting the effort in. But again if you listen to anyone who has ever worked with him then they say the complete opposite, praising him for the effort he puts in and his desire to improve. So I don’t think that’s the problem either.

I said before that I think it will be a few years before we see the best of Carroll and I’ve seen nothing to suggest otherwise. His normal style of play isn’t really suited to what we’re used to under Kenny and at the minute the rest of the team just aren’t playing to his strengths. This will take time. Downing was brought in to provide the crosses for Carroll, but as of yet he hasn’t delivered one ball to his head (unless he did against Exeter) and I don’t imagine that will suddenly click overnight. I also think he has a lot of developing still to do and expect him to improve with experience. When I watch him play, I sometimes console myself by thinking how **** I used to think Drogba was whenever we were first linked to him and even during his first year or two with Chelsea and then look how he turned out. I’m not sure Carroll will ever be that good, but I even take some comfort in thinking about players like Niall Quinn, K Davies or Luca Toni who weren’t half as good as Carroll at that age but developed into decent players.

I find the Carroll divide on here pretty interesting though. On one had I think those giving Carroll a bit of a hard time are going a bit OTT and are not nearly patient enough, yet on the other I tend to agree with the principal points they are making. It’s gonna be interesting to see who it pans out, but for now I think I’ll just remain perched on my fence.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I'm not used to being in the office on a Friday lunch time. I have to drag it out somehow. Expect plenty more where that came from.

Remember, Kenny bought him for 5 years!...I know he will get better as the more he integrates himself into the team along with the others, it will all click in sooner than we think & then watch us go...
At the moment, we are picking up results at probably 50% at our capacity, imagine us at 99%, we will turn teams over at a frightening level!
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

this team is just starting to gel, once they click into place properly I think we'll be a tough nut to crack and we'll start to see Carroll, Henderson and the rest of the newbies showing us a bit more than they have so far.

4 points from our opening 2 games, is pretty decent and I've certainly taken that before the season started.

to be one of the best in the world and justify his price tag he needs to sort out his mentality and demanour imo.

I don't think he is as naturally talented as the Shrek's of this world, will have to work ****ing hard at his game, but he does have the raw talents

While I think your post was largely good, I don't ever recall Drogba being ****. He scored 16 goals in his first season in England, 17 in his second, and then 39 in his third!!!

Does he though? In my opinion, being big and being able to spank a ball isn't enough. I'd consider, touch, passing, movement and finishing as the raw talents of a good striker.

I didn't rate him at all, always thought he was overrated. I'm quite stubborn though, so even when he was tearing up the Premiership I was still insisting he was ****.

I don't think I changed my mind on him until I started playing Pro Evo as Chelsea and I was destroying teams with him.
