I do hear what you're saying mate, and it's a justifiable point of view. I don't think £15m is really *that* extortionate though. Man Utd have spent more than that on central midfielders on several occasions, and that's going back a few years. Chelsea the same. Man City the same. We spent more on Henderson only last season.Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Posti have faith in rodgers of course and his involvement in pulling the plug on the sigurdson deal is to be admired although i for one was not overly impressed with our chase of him in the first place but again if rodgers thought he would have worked for us then so be it.
my main complaint is this 15 mill fee being banded about for allen. he has done nothing to tell me he is worth spending such a huge amount on a player who is still relatively inexperienced with only 1 year at top level. we really need to buy players with experience under their belt and surely this could be spent on a player of that calibre.
While him only having a season of top flight experience is a factor, we also need to remember that he's still a young guy with plenty of scope for improvement, which will also be reflected in the price.
Rodgers will know his budget, and if he's not convinced there's no way he would blow a significant chunk of it on a player he doesn't feel he needs. Do you remember that article that was doing the rounds a while ago, breaking down a description of what Rodgers wants from each position? Allen is pretty much the perfect fit for one of his central midfielders. Great engine, extremely comfortable in possession, excellent passing stats, good defensively. He'd be a key player for us, and he would help us adapt to Rodgers' style that little bit quicker. I think he'd be Rodgers' Alonso.
If we signed him, that would be our central midfield sorted. We've also boosted the attack with Borini. We only really need a wide player and we'll be in good shape for the new season - and we should be able to raise a fair bit through sales if needs be.K ris90210

I desperately wanted Aquilani to stay last year, now I couldn’t be ****ed. Even for Milan, he doesn’t look as fit as he did last year and didn’t really stand out in pre-season. I’m happy to see him go if it gives Shelvey, Henderson and Suso more opportunities. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Aquilani hasn't settled nor played much PL football. We need players who fit the way Rodgers wants to play and Allen is certainly that. It seems odd to me that people are so resistant to the idea of Directors of Football yet want their own partialities for players to be indulged rather than the manager shaping the squad he wants.Originally posted by Pablo1981 View PostSo true
So does anyone want to guess the fee?
I'm going for €5m

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Very good.
Although possibly bigoted too.
