I have been critical of him, but he has been rubbish. If he continues playing as well as he has during the past couple of weeks then that's great. Just because he has been largely disappointing so far it doesn't mean that he can't change people's minds. That's purely down to him, if he works hard on the pitch that is all we can reasonably expect. He does have ability which is why it has been so frustrating watching him until very recently.

He has to be more consistent that's a given, i'm still not sure he can be, but really hope my doubts will be misplaced and he can now kick on in better form.

That little shhhh he did to the kop worried me, hope it wasn't a case of...'see i can do it..have that! I'm off anyway!.'

Because now...if he's staying, the Kop will want to see more of the same, the pressure will be back on.

When his head is right, he can be an assett to lfc, but how often will that be ? Anyway, fresh start and all that.

He was alright 4 matches ago, one of the better from a bad bunch 3 matches ago, Stewinho Downiho 2 matches ago and then garbage again last time out.

This is what constitutes a purple patch in Stewey's world. If he's still here at the end of the window I'll be gutted

Did he play yesterday? Went missing, much as I suspected he would. Had a real chance to show the right mental attitude and prove he has improved, but yet again when we struggle and he completely disappears. He is never going to be good enough and I hope he is not here next season.

How did Downing play against Norwich? I saw the highlights and his pass to Sturridge for the 3rd goal was quite excellent.

He was decent, disappeared occasionally but otherwise showed some guts and had a few nice moves.

Ok in patches, but disappeared as an attacking option all too often, but he did cover well for whenever the FBs pushed on which was more than they usually do.........nicely cushioned cross for Sturridge's goal, but probably should have got his early header on target.
Done his bit I suppose, but he'd probably be near the bottom on the list of performers from yesterday. Done nothing wrong probably sums it up IMO.

Strap yourselves in though, looks like he's sticking around.

Great ball for the goal and I think, at the moment, he's justifying his place (albeit without being exceptional).

He still needs to grow some balls though and take more risks. One example from yesterday was early in the first half. Downing made a great run across the box from right - left. Gerrard picked him out with a fantastic ball which Downing should've hit first time. He tried to take a touch and pass it but the move broke down, Norwich attacked, turned our midfield and Lucas gave away a dangerous free-kick which they nearly scored from.

OK, I feel sick saying this as I still which we'd never signed him. He was decent yesterday. He got back very well and his ball retention and passing was superb and it has been very good the last couple of months. I would say his passing has been second only to that of maybe Gerrard in that period and he has overall been decent. He really fits into this whole ticky tacky way of playing. I can't see Borini and Sterling pushing him out of the team on current form. He still is a giraffe lover though
