.......and if he scores double figures and assists in as many, so do I. But it's not very likely in all fairness.
What is certain is that we're paying him an extraordinary amount of cash per week to do a job that any lad with a left foot in amateur football would be able to reproduce, never mind the fact that any chance of getting a few quid back diminishes the longer he sucks around.

I'm not even sure he'll do a job that Rodgers wants from a fast winger to offer outlets from midfield.....not enough quality, not enough real pace, not enough conviction. He's not a young player, this is his peak.
8m and someone can have him.

Across his whole career? Because his chance creation rate has always been high, just no matter what no one scores from them so he has relatively few assists. Maybe the chances he creates are just ****.

The thing is, everyone thought we bought Downing to compliment Carroll and on paper it made sense. For some reason when Carroll played, Kenny would often play Downing on the right or have him on the bench.

Carroll also struggled for form earlier in the season, but looks a lot more confident now going into the new season. If Rodgers does show faith in both players and plays Downing on the left then I would expect him to have quite a good season.

I'd definitely give him to Christmas to save his LFC career.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

              +1.

              - the Sainsbury's bit.

I think he was unlucky that he had an impotent strikeforce infront of him, but equally some of his performances (or lack of) boiled my piss. I'm very 'meh' about it all which I'm sure will change when my fickleness returns alongside the start of the new season.

I'd be amazed if Rodgers gets rid of him. On paper, Downing fits more into a counter-attacking system rather than a team which dominates possession. His best form has always come for teams who absorb pressure and hit on the break. Rodgers however likes to push high up the pitch and use possession.

I'd be interested to see whether he can fit in, but I wouldn't want him to be our main winger.

                    £5m should do it.

You mean pay the other club 5m to take him ??

                      Sounds about fair TBH.

Reckon we could get 8-9 million for Downing myself. He's had a dreadful season, but there are surely a few premiership managers who would take a punt on him. He can be an effective player for a mid table club.

But he "did his job and got the crosses in. It wasn't his fault they didn't get converted.."

"Statistics have taken over the game: he doesn't score this, he hasn't set up that. You can read into it as you like," he said. "I've constantly set up chances, season in and season out. I can't be criticised for not creating. I've just been unlucky that we've not finished the chances."

                            I sooooo dislike this player...

I know loads of mackems that are desperate for O'Neill to take a punt on him

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.
