Ok, in the minority here but I think £8m is too low for Downing. Yeah, he's not good enough against the top sides when he's in good positions but for a team like West Ham, he'd be a great signing.

£10-£12m I reckon.
Given that they paid nearly 11m for Matt Jarvis, 8m for Downing seems low. However I guess his wages are the big issue. If Downing was on 20-30K we would have been able to sell him for more than 10 m.

theres a lot of money flying around the epl with the new tv deal. If he goes it will be for more than 8m. more likely 12ish with add ons plus no wage payment either.

So we get rid of Downing and out wide attackers for this season are going to be Raheem (18) and Ibe (16)?
Even if he stays he won't be a starter any longer as Aspas, who can play wide, will probably take his spot.
Coutinho and Alberto, even though they are not real wingers, can play there if need be and I'd fully expect BR to bring at least one pure winger if not 2 if Downing is sold.
WHU is a good club for him as Jarvis and him would be almost perfect support for Carroll and the style of offence Big Sam wants there.

Stewart Downing has welcomed the new arrivals at Anfield this summer, insisting he will relish the competition for places.
Downing had to force his way into the starting XI last season before establishing himself and going on to make 28 league appearances.
New boys Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto will both be competing for a wide berth this term, but Downing is happy to see them onboard.
He told the club website: "They're nice lads. They're very quiet, but it's their first week at the club, so they're not used to the area, the lads and how we train. But you can see they're enjoying it.
"Competition brings the best out of players, and hopefully it will in me."

"You need at least two or three players in every position to keep people on their toes, especially at a club like this.
"We're fighting on many fronts - cup competitions and the league - so you have to be strong in every department. But competition brings the best out of players, and hopefully it will in me.
"My targets will be similar to when I got back into the team last season - enjoy it, work hard and play some good football like we did at the end of last season.
"If we play like that again as a team, we've got a real chance of success. For me personally, I've just got to keep going and be as average as I can be"
Liverpool returned to pre-season training on Tuesday and Downing added: "We've had six weeks off, but the lads were all looking forward to getting back.
"There have been new signings come in and there's a bit of a buzz around the place. We can't wait to get started now and get the games underway."
