I said it then and I will still say it now - he is/was a ****ing awful player. It was inevitable his signing would turn out this badly. To think £20m!!! Whatever they are smoking in Emirates now was cleary passed to them by Kenny and Commoli.

Carroll,Downing, Konchesky, Paulson, Adam and Cole represent the jurassic decisions that

I was never a fan of Meireles. Kuyt was annoying as hell at times and although I loved Maxi he could go five games without having a touch.

Those three really gelled though at the back end of 2011. Remember the Fulham and Birmingham games especially where we played some really good football.

Why on earth we replaced them with Carroll, Downing and Adam is beyond me though. Surely your average footy fan could see from the start that they were never, ever good enough to push us to the next level.

Most of us on here were saying that they were average and over-priced those that weren't were hoping that Premiership experience and move to a bigger club would yield better form than they had given at previous clubs. They were all car crash signings

Thing is - and it's been said before - Downing has played in the PL for what, 10 or 11 years now? And how many times have people here thought he'd be a good signing?! Or someone that we'd like to see come off the bench and change a game?! Never. Not once in that time.

He improved at the back end of last season. But **** is only marginally better than having the runs. It still stinks.

hes not spectacular but he is effective, and at the moment we arent in the position to be able to buy the worlds top players.

there is no doubt that this lad will not improve us to no end and you just need to give him a chance.

i was listening to a podcast where it was said that according to carra downing was the best player in training most days but that the club is just too big for downing. maybe he just couldnt handle the pressure of millions of worldwide fans hating his guts.
