Downing is one dimensional. He can cross a ball and that's about it. He can't beat his man with any degree of consistency. If his main asset is his crossing then we have the wrong type of players bar Carroll.

Only suarez won't lap up good crosses, but even he will score headers with quality delivery, as his second against WBA showed. I don't agree with your analysis, every team in the league would benefit from good crosses from the left. He needs to up his game all round, but Carroll, Kuyt, henderson, gerrard should all benefit from service from the left.

Thought I'd wake up feeling a bit better about it all but I don't. Downing has never been good enough for us - not one fan has ever called for us to sign him but when we did loads of people all of a sudden thought he was good. Well he's not, he's ****.

Aye, I temporarily reconsidered my position based on his first few games but then he reverted to type (that type being infuriatingly garbage). Fact is that if he was right footed then even Blackburn wouldn't play him. In fact even Blackpool wouldn't play him. He'd be clogging about in the lower echelons of the Championship somewhere with the likes of Paul Anderson and those other impress young, turn ****e types. At this time he appears to lack game intelligence, skill, guille, ability to shoot and pace. More importantly he looks scared ****less every time the ball comes anywhere near him. Making the left flank look utterly impotent.

At the moment in time Downing in our team is the only thing stopping me from going postal in every thread about Charlie ****ing Adam. A poor choice. Bought for the right reasons but a poor, poor choice. Now we just need to sit there and hope 'Arry comes and bids for him.
