I've been thinking about that and I don't think he's much better than Riera, if at all really. And I liked Riera, for what it's worth. Obviously he's got a far better attitude than Riera and is a better pro, which I guess swings it for him. But purely in football terms, at this stage anyway, I'm not sure he's any better than Riera.

He ain't and even he knows it. That is his biggest problem.

Closest he came to scoring for us was on the right wing, a nice effort too.

The problem is that you can remember the few times he done something excellent. He should be able to do runs like that in almost every game and not only in every fifth game or so.

Only then can you say that he is good enough. He should be able to score 10+ goals in the league and make 10+ assists. Is he better than Kuyt on the right? No he isn't. We all moaned that we needed a better player than Kuyt out wide but did we get that? No.

What we got was a player that is worse than Kuyt out wide but allows Kuyt to be used more as a striker.

We need a better player than Downing in the starting XI. We need someone that create chances in every game and as I mentioned in an earlier post. Someone that is a bigger goal threat.

Now there's a wager.

Reira scored 3 goals for LFC in the premiere league in his time here, 2 seasons.

I reckon Downing has been close to that with near misses in 7 games.

I'd happily wager that Stuart will better Albert in one season, (considering Reira went around clubbing youngsters in his second).

Have you actually watched him on the right for us? He came close to scoring cutting in from there against Sunderland but that's all he's done.

That's not having a go at Downing. He's clearly better on the left and most of this forum will agree with that.
