Er yes it does. He played 18 games and scored 4 for Milan last year. Clearly he's not right since his Injury in 2011. But Wenger had him playing some good stuff when he was there. If he can get back to something like that it could be a decent signing on a free.

Anyway, it's a nothing thing and does show how far Arsenal have fallen behind.

Seems a very sound deal to me. They have lost two/three midfield options to fairly serious injuries and lacked a genuine DM anyway. Free transfer to an area where they have the numbers in the squad but have injury worries about all their options. I think he is more what they need than Cabaye.

I'd imagine they will be looking for other players too.

He was in the Wenger style of such things. I'd say similar in style, but less physical than, Song. Certainly he covered the back 4 as part of his role (the job Arteta did last season) and I thought did it quite naturally.

I guess more the tradition of DMs that allowed Real to use Mcmanaman in that role than that which includes Mascherano and Makelele (lets try to forget the English tradition of Batty et al.).

Was performing well, very well in fact, at LB that year, and then a half-fit Cole was favored over him for that game. Relationship broke down etc etc, so the free move was always likely to happen.

Wasn't he on something ridiculously low as well, below £10k per week. Not that I'd complain at that but he was very good for them for at least 1 season.

If Arsenal do actually bid £46m for Benzema, then they've seriously hit the panic button. Why they didn't just sort out the Higuain deal is beyond me for a lot less money!

Wouldn't surprise me alright.

He complimented Fabregas very well in midfield alright in his last season......don't think he's a great player by any means, but it worked well for Arsenal.

He might as well have said "we've already tapped them up." They're not even pretending to stick to the rules anymore.

He just never seems arsed - he rarely finishes games either which tells me he's either not as fit as he should be or Wenger doesn't trust his work rate towards the end of a game.
