Even when playing further forward he still contributed defensively - he was master of the chasing-back-and-nipping-the-ball-away slide tackle.
He played all his games on the right hand side dontcha know.
    Oh I don't know.

He's only been booked 5 times in 28 games so probably not many. 6 if you count the extra one at Spurs.

Lucas got 5 bookings in 12 league games the crap, lazy cunt who cant be arsed to track back and defend properly.

I actually agree with him (well at least in deep positions, higher up the pitch he is an effective presser of the man on the ball).

Rafa pushed him forward because he vacated the midfield space far too much

IE he was out of position far too frequently to be an out and out central or defensive midfielder

Further forward he had less responsibility he had defensively

Gerrard has pace and tackling ability on his side, so technically he could play that role if he had the tactical discipline. Adam doesn't have the pace, tactical brain, or tackling to play as a holding midfielder.

Adam's strength is bombing forward and his wand(tm) of a left foot.

To be fair I think most if not all of Lucas's bookings came from being hung out to try by Adam when they were playing as a two. He (Adam) exposes whoever he's playing alongside if he's in a midfield two.

Lucas has always been prone to getting a card or two

He got 8 last year I think (and 1 sending off)

                      9 the season before that

Speaking of cards, is Bellamy suspended now? Didn't he get his fifth against Wolves?

I had it as 6 lasy year in the PL and when you consider he made the most tackles in Eurpoe that's pretty impressive (either figure of 8 or 6).

On course for eclipsing that total of 9 this year though before injury.

Adam got 11 last year, so has improved on that front despite more being asked of him defensively.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I agree that gerrard wasnt disciplined enough to play that cm role so rafa put him just off torres where he was arguably the best player in the world for two or three seasons.

adam doesnt do anything that gerrard cant do better and the two cannot play in the same team together. if its a case of letting one of them off the leash then its gerrard for me every time but charlie will still get game time.

could we possibly pair henderson with lucas centrally because both have fantastic engines and henderson can pick a pass. this would allow gerrard to push behind carroll with suarez on the right and bellamy or downing on the left in a 4231. henderson could also chip in with goals from midfield.

the two holdind midfielders would allow both fullbacks to really push right on to provide width.
