Not poacher goals though- to me, a poacher is a guy who was there to tap it in from 6 yards out. Fowler was both a great goal scorer and a scorer of great goals. Not a poacher

I think a forward needs to be more than a poacher at the top level now.

I don't disagree with that. I thought we were talking about these players having an all round game though - i.e. all the other stuff that isn't scoring goals. Beardsley, Dalglish, Litmannen were those sort of players. Even Rush with his tireless defensive play from the front. They were much more than goalscorers.Originally posted by meffin View PostNot poacher goals though- to me, a poacher is a guy who was there to tap it in from 6 yards out. Not sure I would have included Owen in that list. I think you're being a bit kind there!Originally posted by danperkins View PostPlayers like Romario,Muller,Fowler,Inzaghi,Butragueno,Pauleta,R aul,Owen etc were goal scorers, poachers, opportunists & had no all round game didn't do them much harm. Most forwards don't have an all round game but if they put the ball in the ball of the net who gives a **** Nigey.
United:81 Games 34 Goals
Mexico:57 Games 35 Goals
Excellent at what he does... will flourish when getting regular football. And sure you don''t class Bale as excellent so ...
In terms of a natural goalscorer who didn't have much else to his game the first name that comes to mind is John Aldridge. He never looked like much of a player for most of the time but for that split second where he had to finish he really was peerless. If Owen had had that then he really would have been the player that he thought he was.Never knowingly optimistic

The Independent's football correspondent Ian Herbert says Manchester United's Ashley Young has fallen so low at Old Trafford that there may no no way back following his latest diving controversy against Real Sociedad on Tuesday.
Herbert writes: "When you observed Young's surly march through the player/media mixed zone and straight up on to the team bus late on Tuesday - and then saw Antonio Valencia linger to sign Spanish supporters' autographs - you wondered why a desire to be liked, that very fundamental human condition, does not provoke a reaction in the player.
"He is 28 years old now - no longer on the learning curve - yet as distant from fans as he is from those who report on United."

Yep Aldridge and Lineker are the first that come to my mind. Hopeless footballers, wonderful finishers/goalscorers.Originally posted by Bryncoch View PostNot sure I would have included Owen in that list. I think you're being a bit kind there!

I think they may have a few good games, its hard not to, especially with players like Van Persie in the side, but they will still tail off and struggle. Even we had a couple of decent games under Roy.Originally posted by Nigey View PostI hate to say it but I think, I think, that, Moyes is turning it around at Old Trafford. They won't be spectacular but they'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
If Arsenal beat them I reckon any hope of the league will dissappear, it'll between us them and Spurs for the last place in the top 4.Originally posted by Chazza View PostBig test this weekend, get beat and they will be 11 points behind Arsenal.
The results against the other teams in the top 6 will define their season and so far they have looked poor against us and terrible against City. The times they are a changin'.

Since the end of them being really ****e ( West Brom ) they have played
Shak Donetsk 1 - 1 Man Utd
Sunderland 1 - 2 Man Utd
Man Utd 1 - 1 Southampton
Man Utd 1 - 0 Sociedad
Man Utd 3 - 2 Stoke City
Man Utd 4 - 0 Norwch
Fulham 1 - 3 Man Utd
Sociedad 0 - 0 Man Utd
The results have been there, But the performances have not been and that's about as an easy run 0f 8 games you could hope for.
They have managed to spend 27.5 million on a Midfielder that has actually made an average midfield even Worse, Reminds me of buying Downing to sort our Wing play, just is not the quality required.
I am not sure they will get enough points against top half sides to have any significant impact on the top4 this season_____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!
