Unless I have missed something, Hodgson is guilty of nothing more than cracking a **** joke. There should be no punishment no matter what you think of him. If you really honestly think he should be punished, then you're not being particularly rational.
    Oh I don't know.

      Oh I don't know.

WTF? Its a bit ****ing cryptic.
Couldn't he just tell Smalling to get the ball to Townsend?
I guess with his limited coaching knowledge he's got a lot of time to kill at half time and has started doing some stand up to pass the time?
So in this analogy, Smalling is the "man" and Townsend is the "monkey".

Was Bodge just telling Smalling at half-time that he's useless and should leave all the work to Townsend?
That rug really tied the room together.

How far will England go in Brazil?

            Group stages 11%

            Last 16 29%

            Quarter-finals 36%

            Semi-finals 11%

            Final 2%

            They'll win World Cup 11%

Last 16 is realistic, quarters would not be impossible though unlikely. Who knows , tournament football....anything is possible, good or bad.

                  It really is beyond pathetic.

Yet more proof,if it were needed, that he's a total dickhead. Sure nothing was intended but only a brainless **** would relate that story and apply it to a black lad. Feed the monkey ie give the ball to Townsend. Dear God. If there was no intention and I'm certain there wasn't why did he even feel the need explain himself to Andros afterwards or apologise through the media today?

Imagine if the exact same situation had occurred, but it was Rodgers in place of Hodgson telling the joke. Would you have the same reaction? I doubt it.

But people are trying to use this joke as a stick to beat the bloke.

Not sure many are seriously using it as a stick to beat him with. But don't you find it odd that in that situation he'd decide to crack a joke like that? It's pretty bizarre in all honesty. A bit of a surreal half-time teamtalk.

Most normal managers would say "Smalling, make sure you give the ball to Townsend". Not talk about NASA and monkeys. Plain weird

I've clearly stated that I know he meant nothing by the **** joke. I just can't believe he's stupid enough to invite criticism by even using such terms. We all know how ****ing crazy the press and social media are and I'd credit Rodgers with more sense than to get caught out like this. He's far more savvy, something that we're always told is prerequisite for an England manager

Wasn't this in the dressing room, to the players? Or am I missing something?
He clearly didn't think anything racist, and certainly didn't think someone would go public with an complain. At least it shows that not everybody in the squad respects him.

No I don't. A sense of humour is usually a good thing. ****ing it up is a different matter.

And yes, this thread is full of people using it as a stick to beat him with.
                              Oh I don't know.

But how does Hodgson's joke translate to the back streets of Uruguay? Is it acceptable there?
