Well I don't know mate - I think seeing grown men sing their heart out to 'God Save The Queen' does hint at it, for me personally. It's out of touch IMO.
    Are we winning?

And we saw Barnes get booed etc. Maybe it's a southern thing - Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea fans are similarly clueless and obnoxious.

Yes, unless there's a massive cultural shift in how football and the national team is perceived in this country.

I never enjoy tournaments when England are in them. Euro 2008 was great to watch as most folks seemed to enjoy the different styles and cultures. It was a rare moment of appreciation for football.

Why was Barnes booed - cos he's Jamaican?

Who knows. I'd imagine mainly because he didn't reproduce his club form for England - like most players - and he was black. Still is black.

Hmmm. I see Ozil got booed for Germany last night. Typical Germany?

Huh? That's the national anthem!! Of course it's out of touch, it was written hundreds of years ago! (probably)
Surely there are stacks of people that think THEIR national anthem is ****. Listen to some of them FFS

Do you apply similar logic to Olympic games or other instances where the national anthem is played?

I don't really disagree with any of the points made in this thread, but each and every criticism could also be levelled at club football, or national team's fans as well as international. We don't refuse to support Liverpool because of the dickhead fans that chant Munich songs and make plane noises

No because to the best of my knowledge Germany supporters don't have a history of booing and abusing their own players.

If it's out of touch, I don't sing it. Powers that be need to scrap it for a new one.

For me international football is just an annoyance,a side show to the main event which for me is Liverpool,a side show which often injures our best players! I can barely be arsed watching Ireland.

However when the season is over and there's a tournament on I'll watch all the games purely because it passes the time,if Ireland are in said tournament I'll show a passing interest in supporting them but I still don't get as involved emotionally as I do with LFC.

I think the Capello saga and the joy from so many outlets that they could now get "An English manager for England in, cos that's how it should be" summed up England for me.

Capello had them playing very good football, and would have shown much more of a performance in the Euros than Roy's ****house defensive tactics.

I know there was politics around Capello, but the smallmindedness of the people that "bleed England" that Hodgson or Redknapp where the best choices simply because they are English was pathetic.

I'm not going to support against England in the World Cup, but I'm not gonna be a devastated grown man crying when they go out.
The times they are a changin'.
