Hodgson will be sacked, journalists who once tried to find optimism in his approach to the game will slate his tactics, the wolves will be out for any ageing english player, and then finally people will start to come out and say the key is to overhaul how youngsters are developed in England as part of a longer term grass roots strategy, before once again building optimism about the appointment of a successor who is strong where hodgson was weak and will succeed where he failed at euro 2016. and so the cycle continues.
