I think he'd play regularlyOriginally posted by el matador View Postim not being funny but even if we signed the lad wheres he going to play ?
He plays off the front man but were loaded in that position already. He might be a good player but that doesnt mean he would be a success here. he picked spurs because theres less competition and a bigger pay cheque.
we move on towards someone better.
Rodgers looks like he plays a 4-3-3 system
Sigurdsson would play as the more advance of his midfield 3 which is where he used to play for Swansea
He'd face competition in our current squad from the following...
Gerrard who is frequently more and more injured
Cole who I dont rate anyway
Aquilani homesick/injury prone
Shelvey who imo doesnt threaten the box as much as Gylfi does
I reckon not only would he get a game he'd soon be a lynchpin in any Rodgers squad
I think he'd have as much if not more difficulty getting in the Spurs squad
Also the worry I have is that we failed to sign this player because we faced competition for, so for players of higher quality who we will not doubt face equally stiff competition we will again find it difficult to attract players
I think FSG are going to have to overpay if they want decent/quality players and that will be a test for them as I think that currently goes against their policiesLast edited by Lecter; 04-07-12, 07:43 AM.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. In the past we had Champions Leage football and were attractive to playersOriginally posted by el matador View PostIn the past we have missed out on michael laudrup, cristiano ronaldo, daniel alves, david silva, stefan jovetic and were still here.
Ffs were talking about a player from iceland who went on loan to a club who were only just promotes to the premier league from a second or third tier german bundesliga team.
Its time for a bit of perspective. If we really wanted him that badly he would already be signed.
We are under a regime that is no longer willing to overpay (be that wages or fees) it is going to be difficult to attract quality players if we dont
We have very little to offer players these days and trading on the name of LFC will mean little or nothing to many of our targets
Its a tough situation for FSG to be in, they are damned if they overpay, damned if they dontBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I think we have to accept we are not on the same level as City, United, Arsenal & ChelseaOriginally posted by Deano View PostMy take on this is that only Swansea, Spurs, us and Reading were after him. If he's that good, then way hadn't City, Man Yoo, Arsenal, Chelsea and other continental teams expressed an interest ?
I'm not quite sure what would have been missing out on at £10m plus his reported £4m a year in salary
They can offer Champions League football as well as some of them being able to offer more lucrative salariesBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I think those contracts will be a burden on the clubOriginally posted by Lee View PostUnless BR asked the owners to up the salary on offer and the owners declined.
I can't see us offering large contracts to any potential new signing all the time we have the likes of Aquilani, Cole and Carragher on our books.
I think FSG have a choice whether to overpay or not
At this time they have chosen not to, however I think they will have to go against this policy if they are to attract any decent playersBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I did, I actually wanted him when Kenny was hereOriginally posted by el matador View PostOk mate. before BR joined and gylfi was about to join swansea I didnt for one second think we should have signed him. I didnt even think about him other than he was doing alright at swansea. One thing I felt that if he didnt score what else did he do.
Did he create a lot of goals or did he.play outstandingly well. For me he didnt do anything that made me sit up and take notice.
I thought that players of Gylfi's quality was about the best that we could do this summer
I still think that and even more so if FSG arent willing to break their policy of not overpayingBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

What for one moment makes you think that FSG does not have a bucket full of money to invest in players ... thats the model ... spend spend spend for at least 3 years then start to see a return whilst contining to spend albeit on a smaller scale ...Originally posted by Lecter View PostI did, I actually wanted him when Kenny was here

I think they are in a really difficult position
I think to attract better players they will have to overpay, but it looks like they are not willing to do that
I dont believe we are that attractive to people, we cant just trade on "being LFC" anymore
I didnt think we'd have to overpay for people like Gylfi, we have which is even more concerning if FSG are to stick with this financial policy
I dont envy the position they are in, they have certain beliefs and ideals on how to run their business but its going to be tough to achieve their goals without altering their stance
If they dont alter their stance it will be difficult to sign better players than Gylfi

I think we can still rely somewhat on being LFC. Players like Gylfi will pick us above Villa etc if the rest of the package is the same. But, as you say, it will not help us getting top players.Originally posted by Lecter View PostNo please read what I have said previously

Gylfi is the sort of player we will have to look in general. To pick players of his potential at a decent cost we have to go in early, and get a deal done. None of this "we want you to come, but lets all think about it while we`re on vacation" stuff. When we think we have a good deal agreed upon get it signed.Blank

I think you will find most delays are caused by agents, if they get a sniff of a possible bidding war to bump up the price/wages they will use any ruse open to them. It is what they get paid to do.Originally posted by Resu View PostI think we can still rely somewhat on being LFC. if gylfi was a player that Brenda [ooh, controversial] wanted and the owners wouldnt cover the wages then this will put us on a piss poor start.
unless our next couple of new recruits are something special then i will find it hard to understand how they havent secured the signature of gylfi. he is obviously not only better than what we currently have [hendo/shelvey/adam] but also a possible long term replacement for gerrard.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Agree about the agents, but the club needs to try shorten the time as much as possible. Giving two extra weeks will not help IMO.Originally posted by kev776 View PostI think you will find most delays are caused by agents, if they get a sniff of a possible bidding war to bump up the price/wages they will use any ruse open to them. My feeling is that if the club had pushed harder as soon as he was interested we would have gotten Gylfi at a cost we could accept.
He`ll probably sign for us now, make me look even more like a fool.Last edited by Resu; 04-07-12, 09:01 AM.Blank
