He plays off the front man but were loaded in that position already. He might be a good player but that doesnt mean he would be a success here. he picked spurs because theres less competition and a bigger pay cheque.

Rodgers looks like he plays a 4-3-3 system

Sigurdsson would play as the more advance of his midfield 3 which is where he used to play for Swansea

He'd face competition in our current squad from the following...

Gerrard who is frequently more and more injured
Cole who I dont rate anyway
Aquilani homesick/injury prone
Shelvey who imo doesnt threaten the box as much as Gylfi does

I reckon not only would he get a game he'd soon be a lynchpin in any Rodgers squad

I think he'd have as much if not more difficulty getting in the Spurs squad

Also the worry I have is that we failed to sign this player because we faced competition for, so for players of higher quality who we will not doubt face equally stiff competition we will again find it difficult to attract players

I think FSG are going to have to overpay if they want decent/quality players and that will be a test for them as I think that currently goes against their policies

In the past we have missed out on michael laudrup, cristiano ronaldo, daniel alves, david silva, stefan jovetic and were still here.

Ffs were talking about a player from iceland who went on loan to a club who were only just promotes to the premier league from a second or third tier german bundesliga team.

Its time for a bit of perspective. If we really wanted him that badly he would already be signed.

My take on this is that only Swansea, Spurs, us and Reading were after him. If he's that good, then way hadn't City, Man Yoo, Arsenal, Chelsea and other continental teams expressed an interest ?
I'm not quite sure what would have been missing out on at £10m plus his reported £4m a year in salary

I think we have to accept we are not on the same level as City, United, Arsenal & Chelsea

They can offer Champions League football as well as some of them being able to offer more lucrative salaries

I can't see us offering large contracts to any potential new signing all the time we have the likes of Aquilani, Cole and Carragher on our books.

I think those contracts will be a burden on the club

Ok mate. before BR joined and gylfi was about to join swansea I didnt for one second think we should have signed him. I didnt even think about him other than he was doing alright at swansea. One thing I felt that if he didnt score what else did he do.

Did he create a lot of goals or did he.play outstandingly well. For me he didnt do anything that made me sit up and take notice.

What for one moment makes you think that FSG does not have a bucket full of money to invest in players ... thats the model ... spend spend spend for at least 3 years then start to see a return whilst contining to spend albeit on a smaller scale ...

I didnt think we'd have to overpay for people like Gylfi, we have which is even more concerning if FSG are to stick with this financial policy

I dont envy the position they are in, they have certain beliefs and ideals on how to run their business but its going to be tough to achieve their goals without altering their stance

Gylfi is the sort of player we will have to look in general. To pick players of his potential at a decent cost we have to go in early, and get a deal done. None of this "we want you to come, but lets all think about it while we`re on vacation" stuff. When we think we have a good deal agreed upon get it signed.

if gylfi was a player that Brenda [ooh, controversial] wanted and the owners wouldnt cover the wages then this will put us on a piss poor start.
unless our next couple of new recruits are something special then i will find it hard to understand how they havent secured the signature of gylfi. he is obviously not only better than what we currently have [hendo/shelvey/adam] but also a possible long term replacement for gerrard.

Agree about the agents, but the club needs to try shorten the time as much as possible. Giving two extra weeks will not help IMO.
My feeling is that if the club had pushed harder as soon as he was interested we would have gotten Gylfi at a cost we could accept.
