I think we are still showing signs of being poor when it comes to negotiating deals. It's a reputation we've had for years now. People can disagree all they want but no-one heard about Spurs until this past week and look how quickly they seem to have wrapped up the deal. However, it's standard procedure when it comes to Liverpool football club. As always we move slow. I also get the feeling we came in with a derisory offer for Sigurdsson probably thinking he'll come to us because of the "we are Liverpool football club" factor. That may have worked back in the 80's but it's not the case now. Players will more often than not go where the money is. If we think Sigurdsson could be an important member of our squad then why not match the £55k which is what Spurs are believed to have offered? Call me a drama queen but this is not a good start to Rodgers's Liverpool tenure and it's not even his fault.
We battled off attention from the best clubs in the history of world football to land Joe Cole.
I agree with that.
Sigurdsson is hardly a good player at this point and many are upset that Spurs may sign him ahead of us.
Sure it may not look good cause we were supposedly in the driver's seat but that may not be the case now and due to his great relationship with Rodgers.
Personally it says more about Gylfi than it says about us and it is too early to pass any proper judgement as we have no clue what really takes/took place between us and Gylfi's agent.
Even if we don't sign him I don't get all this negativity as imo we have to wait and see what happens over the summer and who we actually sign before start showing any discontent if warranted.
@RF9 everything points to the contract negotiations. The Fee is believed to have been agreed with Us, swans and spurs.
Our contract offer is ****e or he is being greedy or does not want to sign for us incase he can't play for his scummy team in the future.
I always thought it was pretty common knowledge that Spurs have a stricter wage bill than us though that's what's bothering me. If we want him, get him.
Unfortunately FSG want to lower our wage bill but are being impeded by having Cole and Aquaman still on the wage bill , so we are offering lower wages but being out bid by Spurs who have a wage cap and no manager

Yeah, never actually seen the wage slips, but from what's been in the press over the years (Modric, Adebayor VDV etc) that would seem more than likely.
Lets forget him and put in a serious bid for Luka Modric. We sign him and we WILL challenge for the title NEXT season. Spurs can have their Gylffi then.
