Some have said they don't think Allen will ever be a starter at LFC but i wouldnt come to that conclusion yet, it largely depends on how the team changes with Gerrard eventually departing in a couple of yrs imo.

That asides, we should definitely keep Joe Allen anyway, whether he becomes a regular starter or not he is a really handy player to have in the squad. Somebody you can rely to come on around 65 mins in a game that needs to be calmly seen out. He is also very versatile in the different central midfield roles he can play. Plenty of time to fufill his maximum potential too.

Despite Gerrard's form, I do think we're a more balanced team without him.

Henderson, Allen and Coutinho all buzzing about and putting pressure on the opposition. We don't need tough guys in order to do that.

Then it gets released to the front three to do their thing with any of the midfield three able to add an extra man to the attack.

it's great when all the attacking players click - but when it doesn't, the team looks unbalanced and the midfield non-existent. Henderson/Allen/Gerrard with Sterling/Sturridge/Suarez and then at least with Coutinho on the bench we have a quality option to bring on if it's tight.

Before when I thought we would go the possession, passing football route, I always would have liked to see Gerrard, Allen, Henderson and Coutinho playing a diamond in midfield with Sturridge and Suarez up top, but I think with the counter attacking football having somebody like Sterling in the team is essential. Gerrard's passing is such an asset with fast attackers and Henderson has amazing work rate. Based on form Allen would be looking at taking Coutinho's place but it depends entirely on the team we are facing. Joe Allen will be a great player to have around to rotate midfield.

I love him. Not arsed. Players like him and Henderson are invaluable. In the summer we might buy some ****ing awesome centre midfield player like Lars Bender or whoever, but Allen and Henderson will always be crucial to us. Great energy, fit our way of playing like a glove, they pass and move....in fact the pair of them are perpetual motion. Has his limitations, sure, but he has a role for us and he does it really well.
