I dont know why people keep talking about Eriksen replacing Gerrard. There is nothing I have seen from Eriksen that leads me to believe he could play Gerrards role.

A type like Hendo is much closer to Stevie than Eriksen IMO - and even he is far from close.

I don't think that many managers would attempt a direct replacement for Gerrard - he is a bit of an anomaly in terms of both quality and style of play. That said I agree that a player like Eriksen hasn't ever appeared to have any defensive qualities so would only make sense as the more attacking player in a midfield 3 which isn't the role Gerrard is playing at the minute.

He cannot be replaced as he is a unique one-off footballer the likes of which we may never see again. We are developing a fluid system and style of play which will mean the classic Gerrard type of player is not essential, although any team would obviously be better if he were in it. IMO

Totally agree with that. And I don't think Rodgers plan to replace Gerrard like for like. In fact I dont even think his system is tailored to fit all his qualities, and rightly so, given his age.

But I hear a lot of fans saying Eriksen would be a great successor to Gerrard, and I cannot se that AT ALL! I am all for buying Eriksen, as you cant have too much creative talent in your side, but im puzzled as to why people would have him replace Gerrard.

IMO even a Lucas - Gerrard - Coutinho triangle isn't combative enough. We still need a beast of a midfielder more than anything else. A Lucas - Erikson - Coutinho triangle would make us even more open then we already are.

Reported Tottenham and Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Christian Eriksen with his agent saying the Ajax player will only move to a Champions League club.

The Denmark international is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA, increasing speculation the club could cash in on the talented 21-year-old.

Spurs and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the player all summer, while he is also attracting interest from Germany and Italy.

Eriksen's agent Martin Schoots has confirmed clubs from the Bundesliga and Serie A have made enquiries about the player.

However, in a blow to the Premier League duo, he has also confirmed that Eriksen would only consider a move to a Champions League club.

"There has been contact with a club from Germany and one from Italy," Schoots told Tuttomercatoweb.

"He will only leave Ajax to join a team that are automatically qualified for the Champions League and fighting for the title every season.

"He is still very young, very appreciative towards Ajax and happy to stay. At the moment we are not in talks with Ajax but we will be if a move doesn't materialise in this window.

"One thing is for certain, he won't leave on a free transfer."

We're not even interested in this lad according to James Pearce. He has said this on numerous occasions.

Hmm sounds like he's getting his excuses in to me when in actual fact there hasn't been much interest.

By we do you mean Liverpool? It's a bit far fetched to rule out anyone with the same qualities as Gerrard. I'm sure there was never going to be another Maradonna but we have Messi, another Pele but we have Ngoo...

I think we need to lay this down now - Cissokho chaps.

Cant see us getting Eriksen and Willian

Twitter seems awash with reports that we're signing Eriksen, I don't think for a second we are and can't see us spunking the best part of £50M on both him and Willian.

It would almost be worth siging him just so we don't have to be linked with the frigger every transfer window
