Toure can probably cover central defense and also defensive midfield if required.....

Abidal would also be a good call for similar reasons - could cover for centre back and also left back..... plus he is a winner. I can see him going to PSG or Monaco though...

£75k p/w for kicking a football around ffs.

Totally agree Mostar, silly wages for a player not of Carra's pedigree anyway IMO

I'm happy with us getting Toure on a free. He's only in his early 30s too, so got a good 4 / 5 years left.

            Pedigree?

            Arsenal
            Premier League (1): 2003–04
            FA Cup (2): 2002–03, 2004–05
            FA Community Shield (2): 2002, 2004
            Manchester City
            Premier League (1): 2011–12
            FA Cup (1): 2010–11
            FA Community Shield (1): 2012

He may or may not do well for LFC but he's won stuff in his career.

              it's a decent signing

free, experienced, strong, quick, played at a top level throughout his career (always in top four/winning sides)

providing we keep agger and he can stay fit and we bring in a top younger player like this papadouplos that everyone wants then i'd be pretty satisfied with our options at the back - maybe add a lb in there as well

                From http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...uA5yKg.twitter

was prepared to cut his wages by two thirds,
No way he was on £225k/week so I'm going to guess reports of us paying him £75k are way out (if that article is correct obv.)

                  Yep....that 225k is pure BS.
He's definitely taking a cut, but its nowhere near that amount. He was fined 6 weeks (740,000) over the drugs thing, so that's about 120k, unless he signed a new contract in the intervening years.

That would make sense, so if the report is correct we're paying him about 40k, which would be a much more sensible a figure

Big factor is going to be his motivation level,, if he's up for it and stays fit he could be a great signing. If he's just here for the shekels hell be meh.

Kolo Toure's level of experience and leadership makes his free transfer to Liverpool an 'astute' signing according to two of his former colleagues at Barclays Premier League rivals Manchester City.

The Ivorian defender plied his trade with City for four seasons, winning a championship medal and the FA Cup as well as sharing a dressing room with Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott.

"Kolo will be a great signing. I think it's an astute signing by Brendan Rodgers because he has got so much experience," Barry told LFC TV.

"He will always give 100 per cent, he will never give up. Kolo will win over the fans straight away.

"Losing Jamie Carragher's experience from the dressing room will be a huge loss for Liverpool and the fans.

"But Kolo, with his experience and his work-rate, the way he goes about his training, will do a good job of replacing him."

That's an opinion shared by City teammate Lescott, who had the opportunity to watch Toure at close quarters during their time together in Manchester.

The England international explained: "He's energetic, he's full of life and he's always smiling every day in training.

"I know he's a good player - he's quick, he reads the game well and he's a leader. You can't replace Jamie Carragher but that will be as close as you're going to get."

                            Toure arrives to sign contract

Kolo Toure was the first player to arrive at Melwood today ready to sign his contract with the club.

While the rest of the squad begins pre-season training, Toure is at our training base to finalise his transfer.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Touré forced his way into the first team. He really is an excellent defender.
