To be fair it is not as though he is surrounded by players that have done well against the bigger clubs. Put Coutinho into the Spurs team that played us and we would probably have been writing him off as well. Eriksen is about the same age as Coutinho, but far more experienced.

Think he is the sort of player that would have thrived under Rodgers style of management, and he is the type of player that despite his age would have experience of what it is like to be in a title winning team.

Would have been very happy to have seen him join us and be competition for Coutinho/Allen/Sterling

Kind of agree with you both. He looks a good player but does go missing against the better sides and I think he lacks of a bit of mental toughness. Good, but not that good. Most of the teams he'll come up against are 'weaker' though and there's nothing wrong with being a kind of flat track bully. Personally think we can do a lot better than him and in any case he's not better than what we have.

i reckon alberto would look half decent in an average spanish team, slower pace, no frantic rushing around.

          the sooner the better.

I think people are being a bit hasty with regards to Alberto. He clearly has talent, he can pass and shoot well enough. Perhaps it's nerves or homesickness? He might become an important squad player yet!

What I find confusing about this signing is we already have a player at a similar stage of development in Suso.

Anyway, Alberto has bags of potential but unless he gets games he's going to stagnate. He desperately needs a loan move.

He is young too, don't forget his youth age. Needs time to settle. Look at Henderson and how long it took him to settle.

You can't bank on just one player, if suso got a career ending injury then what? Need options in all areas of the pitch

Didn't want him originally for us & wouldn't want him now, but to be fair in his first season in the premier league & with a club not performing... he has done quite well.

Interesting to see how he progresses.

Alberto needs to be loaned to another premier league club next season IMO.. that way he'll get game time & we can see can he cut it in the premier league.

No doubts the lad is technically efficient... but for me it's a matter of if he can cope with the speed/tempo & rough/tumble of the premier league.

this is why it is a waste to send suso to spain. alberto/suso/other loanees needs to prove themselves in the rollerball of the prem.
sending suso to spain just raises his spanish resale value.

I haven't given up on Alberto, everytime I've seen him play for us I thought he looked composed and intelligent on the ball, agree with you that he'd really benefit from a loan spell at a PL club next season.

I think he should have gone out on loan for the second half of the season, IMO we kept him here in case we got injuries develoment wise he needs a loan move and i expect that will happen next season

Reds star Luis Alberto guilty of drink-driving

                                Apr 25, 2014 11:35 By Liverpool Echo

LFC player banned from driving for 12 months, fined £1500 and told to attend alcohol awareness course

                                By Lewis Price

Liverpool FC star Luis Alberto was banned from the road after pleading guilty to drink-driving.

The 21-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder was caught during the early hours on Monday March 31 while driving home from a friend's birthday party.

Police stopped the footballer, who was driving a white Porsche, on Croxteth Drive as he appeared to be using his mobile phone.

Alberto, whose full name is Luis Alberto Alconchel Kenneth Steve Dennis Romero, was also seen swerving the car and, after narrowly missing an island, was asked to step out of his vehicle and undergo a breath test.

He was found to be nearly double the legal limit of 35mg, with a recorded 61mg.

Alberto, who was accompanied by an interpreter at Liverpool magistrates' court yesterday, admitted being in control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

His lawyer, Michael Hogan, said: "Mr Romero does not go out, this was the first time he has been out properly since he has been in Liverpool.”

He added: "Luis has no previous convictions to his name and is unused to strong alcohol. Normally his drinking habits are modest and with being a professional footballer, he will find it difficult without the use of his car.”

District Judge Richard Clancy banned the football star for 12 months and ordered him to attend an alcohol awareness course

He said: "You will have six months to pass a drink drive course, if this is completed in six months the ban will be reduced to nine months."

He was also fined £1,500 and told to pay a a £150 victim surcharge.

Alberto, who was signed from Sevilla last summer for £6m, has made a total of 12 appearances this season, but is yet to start a Premier League game.
