Cheers Bender. Damn it, sick to death of us being beaten to signings by Spurs , they're not even in the Champions League this season FFS!

Did we even have a bid accepted?

...which, if true, suggests recent speculation on here that Spurs pay lower wages is wrong.
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I thought the media was saying Spurs offered Anzhi a better deal which we wouldn't match?

Or we don't pay as much as we think.

That could be true too. I don't see how it's an alternative explanation as I was simply comparing LFC and Spurs directly.

Besides, Spurs have clearly changed from their model of a few years ago of paying big transfer fees for young British players but relatively low wages (which is why they concentrated on young players).

It's not just this summer - Van Der Vaart and Modric wouldn't have come for peanuts (relatively speaking). But all their new recruits in the last few weeks, they haven't all come just for the shopping and convenient access to Tate Modern. It would be naive to think Spurs aren't offering very attractive personal terms these days.

Me too. didn't think it was a personal decision.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

A couple of years ago their wage bill was something like £40m/year less than ours. I would strongly suspect they have significantly closed that gap of late, but they did have room to I guess.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                    Mine angry and defrauded young?

I'm not disappointed, I think £30m for him was mental.

There aren't many out there at the moment that I would happily spend £30m on tbh.

They may become a better team overall as a result. Or they may not. We'll find out in May.
                            Oh I don't know.

Out of interest. Who would you pay £30+ mill for?

Opinion is definitely split on this. Some people agree with the club that he's not worth the money. Others are dissatisfied because we missed out for the sake of spending a few more million.

And others have never seen him play so have no idea either way.
