Hopefully he turns out to be a more expensive version of Dempsey and Sigurdsson

      I don't know but probably.

I have heard that LFC were happy for Willian to be based in the Home Counties. Clearly though he unimpressed by the offer of a lift to training and matches on the back of Ayre's Harley.

      Pillion Willian. Pity.

Three events aren't enough to suggest a pattern. Especially since it seems the three attempts reached different stages and didn't materialise for different reasons.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

We've managed to keep Suarez, so it seems, so all is not doom and gloom and it's not as if we're short on numbers or lacking quality upfront is it?
        Are we winning?

Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

If we're talking about a less significant fee for a player who could really improve our side, then some flexibility with valuation, especially if there are other, perhaps more "attractive" clubs in the bidding mix, is definitely warranted.
It's all quite risky, it's two fold as we are also allowing one of our main rivals to improve simultaneously. I guess we can't really assess the reality of the situation until all our business is done and the window is shut.

Apparently though, Roma have a bloke who has arrived in London to speak to three clubs about Lamela, Pjanic and Borriello. Could one of them be us? We do have some connections with Roma.

Don't know much about Pjanic or Borriello, apart from a quick Google which says that Pjanic is a playmaker and Borriello is a 31 year old striker. Don't seem what we are looking for. Anyway, the question is: are they any good/suitable for us?

The people who didn't want Willian/ thought he was too much money had never seen him play or had not offered any reason why he wasn't worth £30 mill.

The club thought he was worth £30 mill Spurs thought he was worth more.

                    Spurs win.

We need to add some real quality though or we will come nowhere near 4th. One top quality signing along with the quality of football we have been playing could give us a chance. No European football as a distraction/ squad burner could be helpful for this season too.

I really like BR and back him all the way. He needs more than what we have though to get a good crack of breaking the top 4.

I have made this point time and time again, but I do not think we have the time or can afford to keep missing out on top 4. It really does feel like 1 step forward 2 steps back, and whilst we have a good thing going on it is clear this team needs one or two more top quality additions.

They will act as the catalysts that should take us to that next level and give us genuine hope of not only being back in the CL but for challenging what should be our bread and butter, the PL. The holy grail.

Clearly the club agree too, though, given the offers for Mkhitaryan, Costa, and Willian.

EXCLUSIVE: Spurs to spend £60m on Willian and Lamela as AVB prepares for life after Bale

                          By JOE RIDGE
                          PUBLISHED: 11:02, 20 August 2013 | UPDATED: 15:15, 20 August 2013

Tottenham are set to take their summer spending past the £100million mark by splashing out £60m on attacking midfielders Willian and Erik Lamela.

Having already spent a combined £57.6m on Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue and Paulinho, the double swoop paves the way for Gareth Bale's world-record departure to Real Madrid.

Brazilian midfielder Willian arrived in London for a medical today - as these exclusive Sportsmail pictures show - and the highly-rated 25-year-old is on the brink of joining Spurs in a deal believed to be worth around £30m.

Argentina winger Lamela will cost a similar figure and his father Jose and agent Pablo Sebbag have a meeting scheduled today with Roma director of football Walter Sabatini and Spurs' technical director Franco Baldini.

The news comes as Sky Italia report that a fee of £80m plus £20m-rated left back Fabio Coentrao has been agreed between Spurs and Madrid for the transfer of Bale.

Liverpool have been chasing Willian for some time and the Anzhi star has also received late interest from Arsenal but he is set for a medical at Spurs today after flying into London.

Willian plays mainly behind the striker though is capable of playing on either flank and comes with bags of Champions League experience from his time at Shakhtar Donetsk.

He only left Shakhtar for Anzhi in January but the mega-rich Russians have decided to offload their prize assets and concentrate on developing their own players.

Willian is on around £85,000 a week at Anzhi and would demand at least that if he is to choose Spurs over Liverpool.

Lamela, 21, has emerged as one of the hottest properties in world football since joining Roma from River Plate in the summer of 2011.

A pacy winger capable of playing on either flank or as a second striker, the Argentine has scored 21 goals in 66 games for the Italian club.

Lamela was punched by Southampton's new club-record signing Daniel Osvaldo in a training ground bust-up at Roma in November 2011.

Lamela is most definitely worth spending big on, if we are to over spend or go that extra mile IMO he would be a player worth doing that on.
