I agree but only if we were willing to pay a couple of million more, which it seems we were not. Whether that was the right decision or not we'll find out over the course of the season.

Every sensible club has a limit, if we genuinely bid our max and Chelsea gazzumped us, there is nothing we can do. Move on, there are plenty of other fish of this size in the sea, time for the scouts to earn their money.

Those that killed her, were following the law.

Depends what the limit is governed on
Is it governed solely on what we can or cannot afford
Or is it governed by a "value for money" notion discussed and agreed by the committee
The second notion is too subjective for me and "value for money" is very hard to determine
Was it value for money to pay £15 million (or whatever Chelsea have paid) for Salah or was it better to have paid out £7 million for Aspas??
The principles and ideals behind the committee are great but I'm not sure they stand up when empirically tested

Obviously when clubs with larger resources or currently more successful than us, compete with us, it's harder for us to sign these players. Happened with Salah, Willian and Mktharyan.

Agreed which is why the club should look carefully at how they approached those dealings and learn from their failings
If the club have hesitated / dawdled or refused to pay more than the committee values him at then they will need to look closely at their policy in order to avoid repetition in the future
If they moved as quickly as possible to get an agreement and were gazumped in those dealings well then that is a completely different matter that is outside their control

...that's true in part, but not in cases like Salah where the consensus is that we could have tied up a deal before the Mata deal was brokered.
We don't know the inside track, but where there is an obvious first mover advantage, we do seem to drag out negotiations to the point where other clubs can enter the race late.. And only at that point will their financial clout win out.

What do we know? It's all rumours and hearsay at this stage. If he was so incompetent, I'm sure he wouldn't still be working there.
Yeah I know, I expected this response, just silly season!
Still, we do seem to be *heavily* linked to quite a few players, including mentions from Rodgers, which in-turn don't quite come off. I suppose this is the same for everyone though.

Hmm, the constant mention of Salah's so called 'desire' to play for Chelsea wreaks of the opposite.
Seems like the rumours are true and the poor bugger's forced to join Chelsea (or remain at Basle ostracised). I don't hate him, I hate Chelsea.
