I see a couple of the papers reckon two Premier League players - including one England player - are going to come out as gay. The story is getting panned by most people as if it's a non-story..."who cares?", "disgraceful invasion of privacy" sort of thing. Well I disagree - I don't *care* who's gay, but this is a huge deal for football. Yes it's a shocking indictment on the macho world of football, it's ridiculous in this day and age that being gay in football is still taboo, but it is taboo and it is a story. More power to the lads who come out - make no mistake it will be a huge deal for them and that's all that should matter IMO.

I hope they do come out and I hope it marks the start of a new chapter in football where we can have openly gay footballers and they're not abused by sections of the crowd.

"I bet its - X" will be the chatter and then if/when their identities are revealed everyone will go "I knew it would be him/them" regardless of who they are!

(Its Graeme Le Saux isn't it? )

The speculation has already started on Twitter. I've already seen four names on there.

Must so so hard for alot of sportsman in particular sports to come out as gay. The fact we are still saying that today, in modern day society... really is quite disturbing. I can't quite imagine what that would do to a person having to keep that secret bottled up, it's not fair and it's not right.

Absolutely 100% that certain sections of tribal fans will jump all over this news & use it vocally at games, which is disgusting but that element is still rife. I'd like to think that it won't matter to most civilised people with a developed brain! but in modern day football I agree, it's a massive deal. It shouldn't be, be it is.

          Very brave

I think we might be surprised by the reaction from most fans. Surely most won't give a ****. If this was the 80s or 90s it'd be carnage, abuse all over the shop. But I reckon anyone doing it now, and there will be the odd few for sure, will be stamped on, nicked or whatever and soon enough no one will bat an eyelid. I hope anyway.

              I agree.

It's a ridiculous situation that sport, and football in particular has got itself into.
              Oh I don't know.

It is but undeniably it is in it and it would be a landmark for the sport if these players come out. Can't believe so many people want to sweep it under the carpet.
