Its why targeting players late in the window is so risky. If we'd gone after him two weeks even, we'd have realised this guy was essentially impossible to purchase.Originally posted by Gibbo View PostSo basically the Dnipro guy was being a tosser.
Like a Ukranian Oysten.
Someone best tell the people that have gotten AyreOut trending on twitter this.

Obviously not.Originally posted by cream View PostYou'd think we were the only club who failed to land some of our targets.
We're the only one I can think of who's publicly engaged in prolonged courtships for several high profile players in the past window or two and failed to sign them all.
No club will get all their targets, but there's a pattern in our repeated failures.A humble guy with healthy desire.

Incompetence there is no other way to put it. The club had a whole month to bring players in. We had similar problems last summer and you'd have thought we would have learned from our mistakes. But what do we do, spend months trying to negotiate a fee for Salah, Chelsea come in and wrap up the deal in days. We then leave ourselves racing against the clock trying to sign Konoplyanka and talk for 3 fecking days. I don't believe for one second that the owner of Dinpro decided today that he didn't want to sell.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostRegardless of which way you look at it these two windows have been nothing short of incompetence from the club. If you're the owner of a business and you hire people to strike deals and time and time again fail on the big deals you would be asking questions of why it keeps happening.

To be fair to Ayre he did get Suarez to sign a new contractOriginally posted by Leyton388 View PostIf you're the owner of a business and you hire people to strike deals and time and time again fail on the big deals you would be asking questions of why it keeps happening?
That said any normal business would be having a review of their process and procedures if they were failing on a regular basis.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

...that argument stands up if for an isolated transfer saga - but this is a consistent trait, time after time, with the majority of our #1 transfer targets. Doesn't happen to other clubs anywhere near to this extent if at all, so it has to be something within our club/our lead negotiator...

The pattern mainly being that we pay attention much more to our own signings and that the proliferation of the internet has meant that we are more likely to hear about something than we would have been previously.Originally posted by The Erectile Banana View PostObviously not.

Well regardless of my opinion out of the 5 deals you would expect to get maybe 2 or 3 done but to miss out on all 5 high profile deals is not good business at all. You employ these people to do a job and to simply turn round and say "all 5 failures were out of our control" doesn't wash.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostBut that suggests that there would be only one factor, there are many, many factors. I'm not blaming any one person for the failures but something isn't right when time and time again we end up with the same outcome.

There's no point in being angry or pretending we know anything about how these deals are made, what is good and bad practise or what our fanancial situation is. I'm disappointed though. I do find it hard to believe that it was impossible to find someone who would have joined us that was better than any of the players we already have, and this window was very important. The opportunity for fourth may not be as good again for a long time and you would think ambitious and sensible owners would have spent some money with the potential payback if CL football and a step up in terms of revenue. Maybe we don't have the backing to start work on the stadium and really push for the CL at the same time, I'm not sure. We should have bought a DM though, there no doubt about that so this window has to be considered a failure.Last edited by Kenneth; 01-02-14, 12:47 AM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Nope, that is still conjecture. You thinking it is because of what you think happened is not the same as that being the actual problem.Originally posted by Tribute View Post...that argument stands up if for an isolated transfer saga - but this is a consistent trait, time after time, with the majority of our #1 transfer targets.
