Rules you would like to see Added/Removed from Football

Was talking about this over the weekend. Plenty of us had different rules that we hated, or felt that the game needed to improve.

I for one would like to see the addition of a 3rd card. One for a player the Ref deems is too wound up, or flying in to challenges too much. Just a 10 minute cool down where they sit in the dug out. Similar to the Sin Bin. But more to stop silly injuries from wild players.

Also, the removal of this silly rule where players have to go off if the physio comes on, only for them to trot on again a second later. It doesnt do the job it was supposed too, because most treatment is given on the pitch and holds the game up anyway.

    Anything else?

Stopping the clock to measure added time instead of having refs choose what it is. Unless it's for time wasting.
The times they are a changin'.

The clock stopping when the ball is out of play, like rugby. Completely stop time wasting

Only the captain allowed to talk to the ref.

      Video referees

I would like to see a rule introduced whereby anyone seen grabbing hold of, or rugby tackling (putting their arms around) another player in the box concedes a penalty.

        Including Skrtel.

Something like this might be worth trialing...

The GAA in Ireland have introduced a 'black card' whereby a player that commits a cynical foul (but not bad enough to warrant red) is shown the black card and he has to leave the field of play for duration of game but he is replaced by player from the bench.

Nah. It means that the cynical cnuts might not get sent off. Sending off is sometimes needed. Besides, it just gives everyone something else to argue about.

Video refs and replays are better.

Blocking and shielding of the ball when it's going out of play, unless the said player has already touched it.

I just don't think you should be allowed to block/shield the ball unless its under your control or has been under your control.

E.g. Attacking player takes a bad touch and the ball is running out of play slowly, therefore the defender blocks the attacking player, thus shielding the ball out of play.

With video refs and replays we'd be a few points better off right now.....

I like that. I am sure I read a stat recently where it said the ball is only in play for something like 60 minutes of the match. Which is crazy if you think about it. 33% of the time they are doing nothing.

I'd like to see control of the watch to be taken out of the hands of the ref and onto the fourth official or someone in the stands.

Edit; why don't I read threads before posting ffs

There is the article I read.

Edit: Interesting bit at the end with a comparison between Man Utd and Stoke (article from 2011) having 8 minutes difference between ball in play times.

Stop carding players for removing their shirt in celebrations.

                            Yes to all this.

Independent time keeper, nothing to do with the ref.Someone sat in the stands away from influence of the players and managers.

Also simplify the offside rule like it used to be,no phases of play or not interfering etc,its ridiculous. And it should be judged by more than just one linesman. How is it physically possible for one person to be looking in tow different places at once.

Any club with all of the letters C h e l s e a in their name or managed by a man called Jose should be immediately relegated.
