I like that. I am sure I read a stat recently where it said the ball is only in play for something like 60 minutes of the match. Which is crazy if you think about it. 33% of the time they are doing nothing.

yup i've seen loads of times stats pop up that the ball is only in play like 60 mins.


so the issue would be if the clock stopped when the ball went out or subs/goals scored etc - then 90 mins would actually be too long a game?

Blocking and shielding of the ball when it's going out of play, unless the said player has already touched it.
I just don't think you should be allowed to block/shield the ball unless its under your control or has been under your control.

E.g. Attacking player takes a bad touch and the ball is running out of play slowly, therefore the defender blocks the attacking player, thus shielding the ball out of play.

Replace penalties with runs from the half way line and the 'keeper to beat.

Not sure players would be happy doing that after 120 minutes with cramp & stuff. Sounds like a recipe for injuries.

Retrospective yellow cards especially for diving etc

If you are faking an injury, off you go for 5 mins or so (no substitution)

Retreating 10 yards from a foul to allow a quick free kick, yellow card if you prevent a quick free kick

Controversially, I have never liked the offside rule would like to see it go - it would spread the games out a lot and lead to more goals and a more exciting games (never going to happen though)

Mike the ref up - good idea, we need to start respecting the ref. The obvious lack of respect is impacting grass roots and junior football.
