He's clearly better than he's showing but at the same time I think this move has highlighted his deficiencies. I thought a nice little lower league ground might make him feel at home ...but he looked lost as usual.
He only looks lost because we don't play to his strengths. Same with Mario. We just play the Rodgers way with a big lump who is unsuited and that player gets played & played until their confidence is shot.

With Rickie, it's clearly happened out of desperation due to Danny being injured & Mario not working out. With Mario, well he just didn't adapt as hoped. Rickies failure is a knock on effect of Mario failing.

If they're not both too far gone, I suspect the return of Sturridge & maybe arrival of another (Origi?) may actually make both look better.
    Forwards.......

It's strange cos Southampton under Pochettino last season didn't play in a massively different way to us - high press, good quick football etc. Lambert was good enough to thrive - some of his play last season was fantastic and he displayed intelligence and quality. So much sport is played in the head and I think his head's gone completely. When you lose confidence you become desperate, scared or both and I think that's what's happened to him.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Yeah it's easy, and foolhardy, to blame it on Rodgers. He's not even doing the basics right. He can't win a header. He can't control the ball. He can't hold the ball up.

I think this move has all just been too much for him. A life's dream achieved and it's all been too much for him to cope with mentally and capitalise on. Had we started this season as we finished last season it might have made it easier for him. But with the team struggling so far I think it's made it all the harder for him to hit the ground running. A real shame.

I agree with Danny on this, our forwards (when they're played) hardly ever seem to get the ball, and certainly rarely in good areas/have good chances.

He doesn't get enough of the ball because he's far too static. If he had good enough movement you can be sure as **** the likes of Coutinho and Lallana would pick him out.

Rodgers used to play quite successfully with Danny Graham up top at Swansea. If he's not the epitome of the big lump up front, then I don't know what is.

Oh please, come on mate not this, blaming the manager. Players that are good enough will 9/10 find a way to shine regardless of manager/setup. Mario and Lambert are failing here because they're both very limited players who aren't good enough.

Quite poor last night, and probably would have looked more at home if he was playing for them. Beyond a couple layoffs in midfield, he offered nothing in their area and should have done better with the effort Stevie laid on for him.

Then again......it was only a League 2 side (quite worrying TBH).

I wouldn't have dropped him for the beast to be honest.

Rickie Lambert has emerged as an early transfer target for the new Crystal Palace manager, Alan Pardew.

Pardew is anxious to bolster his strike force in the January window and has inquired about the availability of the Liverpool forward, who he signed for Southampton from Bristol Rovers in 2009. Liverpool are keen to retain Lambert despite his difficult start at Anfield but whether Pardew will drop his interest in the 32-year-old remains to be seen.

The England international made only his 10th start of the season for his boyhood club in Monday’s FA Cup win at AFC Wimbledon. The striker has had to adjust from a regular starting role to a substitutes’ berth since his £4.5m summer move from Southampton and recently admitted that was the wrong mindset with which to start his Liverpool career.

Lambert has scored twice for Brendan Rodgers’ team this season, at Palace in the Premier League and against Ludogorets in the Champions League, but having made a breakthrough with six consecutive starts has returned to the bench since the manager adopted a 3-4-2-1 formation with Raheem Sterling leading the attack.

Liverpool want to increase their forward options in January, not diminish them by allowing Lambert to leave so quickly, but attempts to advance Divock Origi’s £9.8m transfer from Lille, scheduled for the summer, are being resisted by the French club despite the offer of a premium on the fee.

Yes please ! (should ask them if they would like Mario as well, as soon as he's done chatting up young ones)

As long as we've another one or two coming in........don't even want anything for him. Just him leaving (and Fabio) would mean we're replacing (or so you'd hope !) and that's good enough for me.

Yup Borini and Lambert going has zero effect on the quality of the squad, their just warm bodies at the moment. Lambert is better than he's shown but he's style of play is polar opposite to ours.

Might be different with a runner off him. Did he play off Rodriguez last year or was it the other way around?
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.
