Ha ha! If I was the FA I'd move heaven & earth to get Rafa Benitez. Tactical master which is what you need at international level & someone who wouldn't play players based on reputation. His teams wouldn't be exhilarating to watch, but at tournaments they'd do well.
      Forwards.......

I reckon new manager after this world cup.
Brendan Rodgers has showed what attacking football can be like with the core of English players. RH is anti football, decent manager but not what England need if they are looking to win things.
Like i said before, this same squad has a nice mix of experience & youth coming through with quality attacking players...just need an attacking minded manager to motivate the team. Benitez would be a dream but very unlikely to happen. Maybe Neville, although not so much experience, could offer a fresh set of ideas. England need to play without fear and thats not what they do with Hodgson in charge, more like play safe.

I think that's a good call. I'm not sure, with his obsessiveness and addiction to football, he could cope with international management - playing so few games etc. But he is absolutely desperate to move back here for personal reasons, but the sad likelihood is that he's never going to get a job here at the level he craves and deserves. Which leaves England. He would be brilliant - but he would also become the most hated and readily-attacked England manager ever.

He'd be slaughterred. Already has a hate hate relationship with the English press.

He'd be silly to take it even if begged, and he wont be.

I think that, and his likely aversion to such irregular football, would be the two biggest obstacles.

Objectively, looking at actual football reasons, I think he'd be a wonderful appointment. A master of tournament football.

Rafa would be perfect. I reckon theres a lot of players he'd like to work with and they aren't brain dead English players like many try to claim. Needs some centre backs though, Yag Yelka is so badly out of his depth at this level it's comical. Perhaps he could improve that gormless cunt Jones.

With Del Bosque surely stepping down can see the Spanish job becoming v attractive for Rafa.

I listened to the Pearce interview on Talksport. He talks about the importance of youth tournaments also. I think giving Rafa the keys to the castle and getting him involved at all levels would work wonders. I'd also force clubs to make players at all levels available for selection and I'd make a point of blacklisting those who put the interests of their club first.

I know Rafa won't get the job. But of those who applied, I'd be picking someone who specialises in knockout football & I'd give preference to those with previous international experience. Goes without saying they'd have to be a proven winner. Erm...... Fabio Capello? Lol

Two years till next tournament, World Cup 4 years away. A lot can happen in that time. Phil Jones, Smalling, Stones, Cahill will still be young enough. Steve Caulker. Sure there are others.

Welbeck was the only one I probably wouldn't have picked, probably would have had Lallana in there ahead of him.

A group of us chatted last night before and after the game (probably about 10 of us, good cross section of the fan base) and every person agreed that the selection wasn't the problem. That team was the best of a bad bunch. Not much hiding that.
We had the same discussion, 7 of us and the same conclusion. We are poor in every department and we have no world class or game changers.

Left field choice, I'd go with Martinez.

Needs a big club but probably won't get the chance for a while.
Knows the English game, language and press.
                          Plays attractive, attacking football.
                          Likeable.
                          Takes him away from Everton.

I'd go with Gary Neville myself. We need some BR-like new thinking for the National Team. None of this square pegs in round hole thinking. Just identify the right talent, get them in the right positions and let them produce. I don't buy into this 'lack of talent' in this country. Its just a cop out for having the wrong people in charge. Not many countries have got as many youngsters who have as much potential as this country does. We've just got a ****wit in charge who has no idea what to do with top talent.

Its like saying BR is doing a job at Liverpool that anybody could do. If you get the right manager in charge then the rest falls into place. They can't even blame 'tiredness' for this tournament as we've hardly any players who took part in lengthy cup runs/European campaigns. Why is it we've not had a game probably since we took Croatia apart at their ground that we've 'outfoxed' a single decent team? Every competitive game vs decent opposition is a struggle or unconvincing at best.
