As for the booing at half time. That was wrong but when you just watched be beaten at Anfield by Arsenal on Saturday and then find ourselves 4-1 down at half time to their reserves I think that it's to be expceted that there'll be an good few disgruntled fans there.
Tonight was a lot worse than Saturday's for me as Saturday was more about the 96 and every one effected than football.
Tonight should of been about getting back to playing football.

TBO i bet it was easier being at the ground than watching on tele. You just stay there in the ground whereas on tele you'd have to force yourself plus the clock always seems different 85 min in the ground is loads left compared to 85 on the tele clock.
We honeslty thought when we got the 3rd we could come back, you could see thier fans sudenly start acting differently and their player picked it up a notc.

I can just hear Souness saying milk cup why bother

Stevie after we beat the mancs - what shall we do with this cup, car boot sale anyone?

Why did Fowler bother to score that goal.

We need to install a winning mentality and in the kids aswell.
WOuldn't it be better to play a couple of fringe players in a winning team for a run of match's than half a dozen in a loosing team for 1.

However, that makes tonight all the more hurtful. In a game which could lead to a final against chelsea, in a competition thats our only realistic chance of a trophy, he picked such an inadequate team.

I understand the need for squad rotation etc etc, but tonight was a night for a strong first 11, to press on in a competition in which we have a long & proud tradition. The team picked gave me the impression Rafa didn't really give a toss about the League Cup & I don't think thats the right attitude for us, particularly this season.
I can see it from Rafas perspective; League and European Cup are the priority. Want to rest players after taxing Christmas schedule. Arsenal were fielding reserve/backup players too.

The big mistake he did make was picking Dudek again after Saturday.

Colin's right. Had Reina played instead we certainly wouldn't have conceded at least 2 of their goals. Though the defensive unit as a whole was a shambles.

If anything it should open everyone's eyes (including Rafa's, especially his) to how far off we really are from being legit League contenders. Which could be a positive. Outside of the first 11, which also needs upgrading our squad/reserve players are very much mediocre.

Rafa made a cu/nt of it yes, but the biggest culprits were the players, especially the defenders and Dudek. I expect them all to be gone by the summer after that.

The goalkeeper has a lot of influence on defensive shambles.
I think Reina would have organised his defenders better and the defenders would have had more conidence in their keeper.

I'm not pinning all the blame on Dudek, but I think Reina would have influenced the defending

Arsenal did field a weakened team but they are in a better position than us this season. They are still in the FA Cup & have an easier CL game than we have. If we don't beat Barca, the players will be getting plenty of rest as we'll only be playing once a week. For me, tonight should have been a priority, more so than Watford on Saturday.

The 3rd goal was a killer and I blame him for that. He was so poor at coming to claim that cross and that's what cost us the goal.

Dudek has never been the most dynamic re organising the defence hence they always had to look behind them whilst looking in front. Reina stoped that as he became the sweeper.

Dudek then has a bad game and aint match fit, so put in 3 fringe players and one slow quiet defender in front and no wonder we were torn apart.

The positioning was awefull at times.

Dudek is ****, and apart from one decent season and an inspiring performance in Istanbul he always has been.

Reina instils confidence in his defenders, which allows them to relax and take time. Dudek has never done this, which leads to nervous defending like we saw on Saturday

He was **** in Istanbul for 90 minutes, then he had an amazing piece of good fortune with the shevchenko save followed by an inspired shoot out.

Completely agree but I also have to say that our defending / goalkeeping was woeful. Everytime Arse go the ball in our last 3rd you would think that they would score.

Anyway I console myself that Benitez is plotting another famous European campaign and a solid league finish (2nd or 3rd).

I felt for everyone at the ground tonight. Rafa's selection was a joke and he's made a laughing stock of us. He is absolutely to blame for tonight's shambolic result.

I cannot remember a season where we've lost as heavily as we have this season. Rafa needs to sort this **** out because the Champion's League win is becoming a distant memory.
